Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelina Lutsenko
Hi Angelina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After graduating from the University of Georgia in 2017 with a BA in Journalism, I pursued any and all writing and editing opportunities in California (where I was living at the time), and stumbled upon an assistant editor role based in Van Nuys. After the social media manager resigned, I volunteered to take over her role in additional to my editorial duties. From there I began working in social and with clients to execute social advertising campaigns. Being on sales calls with the sales director at the time led him to think I’d have a knack for sales, rather than social. Especially in the digital media space. So now I am the business development manager for Beauty Launchpad magazine—the one-stop media brand for all things pro beauty and salon! In the evenings, I teach ballroom dance and practice with my pro partner! We are getting ready to compete at the start of the new year!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not! The company actually got acquired and they let many of the original team go, but I was brought back on about a year later to rejoin as their social media manager, before I transitioned to sales. Now, if it’s not early morning calls, it’s late nights of catching up on emails, drafting proposals and building IOs—after dance practice of course!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In my sales job, my motto is that my clients will never have a bad experience with me, and if they do, I promise to make it right. Kindness is my upmost priority and if I can’t show that to my clients (and dance students) then I’ve failed.
In my dance career, I find joy and purpose in teaching couples how to love each other better through ballroom, teaching singles how to make friends and a potential partner and most of all, learning from each one of my students. Like they say, the teacher is the student. For my own pro dance career, not only am I cultivating my craft and growing into a better dancer each week, but I’m also learning to let go, to stand taller, to be present, to be where my feet are, and most importantly to inspire others to follow their dreams.
What makes you happy?
Helping others with their business goals is the reason I’m in sales. If my marketing campaign helps your business grow, I’ve done my job.
In dance, I’m happiest practicing with my pro partner. If either of us ever have a bad day, we also leave practice a bit more cheery than when we came. It’s the perfect stress-reliever.
