Conversations with Miguel Alvarado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miguel Alvarado

Hi Miguel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Miguel Alvarado, I’m a 28 years old Venezuelan Artist.

I have been always fascinated by all the different ways of expressions that we call “art”.

My Journey started around 13 years ago when I first started doing Graffiti in my hometown “Cua”, which is a small town but very rich in art and culture. That’s how I got involved with the right people to get in touch with the Hip-Hop culture.
At the time I became part of the WCM CREW which means “Escritores Concientizando Mentes” in English “Writers Raising Minds”. Where we shared a lot of different ideas and skills, we also reached different goals. (win contests, designs for clothing, events, etc)

By the age of 19, I had to leave the country for political and personal reasons and that’s how I ended up here in Orlando, FL. I spent a couple years trying to figure out the North of my art again, always feeling welcomed by the community and the culture. One day at a church event I met a music producer and very talented musician, Donkan.

Donkan helped me out to understand that our art needs to be our lifestyle not just our style!

And that’s how this huge and exciting project comes to life: “THE MURKY WORLD” is the “genesis” of my art, combining the Hip-Hop elements, my experiences, my influences and my dreams. We are in the creation of music, art wall, clothes, events and more. It is a sweet and very interesting process. The Murky World has not only become a brand but the lifestyle I want to live for the rest of my life. Love, respect, discipline, communication and creativity are some of the values I want the community to live while they support our movement. I believe a lot of people will connect with the songs and art we love to create not only here in Orlando but around the world!

Con amor mucho, Murky Ray.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not an easy or smooth road to go, I had struggles with the language and that lead me to struggles trying to know the right people or to get a good job to support and satisfice my art. Thank God things are different now, after some time studying and learning I believe I have what I need to keep conquering any challenges ahead.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work in the Hospitality/Events/Food and Beverages industry, I take care of hundreds of conventions per year in the Orlando area. Most of the people know me for being loyal to the projects I work on, personal or for others, the commitment is always 100%. I believe I am most proud of the friends I had choose to keep close in this process, people who are better than you in whatever they do, is always people who can teach you a lot. The only thing I will say that sets me apart from others is the authenticity God has gave me to connect with others, to understand others and to help others.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Very introverted, creative, curious, hard-working and perceptive.
