Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Bellamy
Joseph, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in Maryland. I lived there for 22 years. I always wanted to be a model, but it was more like a dream. I couldn’t see how I could realistically do it in Maryland, and I didn’t think I looked the part. Before I moved from Maryland I had maybe about 4000 followers on Instagram. I had a blank Instagram page, because I deleted everything. And I only posted on my stories. Before I moved my older brother Benjamin Bellamy, had a conversation with me. He urged me to re-launch my Instagram page. And I told him I wasn’t going to do it unless I do it big. Everyone of my family knows I’m such a perfectionist. He told me I’ll figure it out. I moved down to Florida in October 2021. About a week later I re-launched my Instagram page with a dope selfie. And the caption was, New era! And everything started moving quickly after that. I started planning my Instagram post out regularly. I started to explore my brand new city of Orlando. And that took a couple months. On a night out with a friend in January 2022. We were just having fun and going out downtown. We took some photos after the parking garage. And I just saved them in my phone. A couple days later. I was like being delulu in my head. And I thought I would submit the pictures I took the other night to some modeling agencies. So I did. About a week later. I got an email back from a talent development agency, and a requested a test shoot. Right outside of Miami. I called my older brother and asked him if I should do it. And he pretty much told me go for it and see what happens. The next thing you know, I’m driving out to a test photo shoot. The photo shoot is over with and I’m talking with all of the experts in the agency and they suggested that I should go for modeling professionally. And suggested that I could do well in the industry. A couple months go by and I submitted my pictures to a lot of agencies in my area and outside of my area. One of the first responses I got back from was MMG New York. We chatted for about a week and the next thing you know I was signed in August 2022. A couple months later. I get a response from my local agency as of now, which is Modelscout. We did a photo shoot later on that year. And in January 2023 I was signed. And since then I’ve been updating my portfolio, I’ve been able to travel to New York and attend some of the biggest modeling conventions in the world. I’ve spoken to all of the biggest modeling agencies in the world. I’ve got to walk a fashion show in New York for a really cool designer who has been published in Vogue. I’ve been in music videos with huge music artists. I got on a cover of a local magazine. and we’re still going.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At first, I would say it was smooth. A lot happened very quickly for me. Later on down the way things started to slow down. I would have to save money for certain photo shoots and clothes. I would have to balance my job outside of modeling with my modeling job. I would submit tons of self tapes and get rejected by a lot of clients. But you can’t let that discourage you, you have to keep pushing. If I were to quit or stop after the first couple of rejections, there would’ve been so many opportunities that I would’ve missed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a model. I get booked by clients, which could be for a number of things. Some being photo shoots, fashion shows, music, videos, commercials, etc.. Whatever they need me for. When I’m most proud of is even though I didn’t think I could make it, I still try to push through and it’s paid off and a number of ways. What set me apart from the others is? I think I’m just me. I’ve been around a lot of stunning models over the past couple of years. And I still have yet to find somebody that looks like me.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me about this job profession is not the money or some recognition/fame. It’s the art form of modeling and fashion. Being able to express yourself in this beautiful art form that a lot of people recognize is what really matters to me. I’ve loved it since I was a child. And I will forever love it.
