Today we’d like to introduce you to Page Godwin

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Cactus & Clover was created to bring flavor to everyone’s cooking adventures.

Being raised in the Low Country of South Carolina there is a deep appreciation for family and the food that brings us together.

As with any culinary region there is a main theme for the flavor of the area, but with many variations. My sauces are a twist on the local recipe I grew up with.

After living in Florida for many years and being asked for samples of my sauce multiple times, I was able to find a copacker in Winter Springs and start down the road of officially offering my sauce to everyone.

The “Jorge O’Malley Flavor Sauce” is a twist on the Carolina vinegar-based sauce. It gets its name “Jorge” because my middle name is “George” and “O’Malley” from my Mother’s family heritage. We use only natural ingredients with a rice vinegar base. The “Flavor” sauce is more than a direct barbeque sauce, it is a cooking sauce to add flavor to any meal. As a direct sauce it is good on pulled pork, greens, or any item that could benefit from that vinegar zing. As a cooking sauce, we use it to enhance flavors and create new directions on common meals. If you add Jorge O’Malley Flavor Sauce to your alfredo sauce, you will have a Cajun Alfredo sauce for grilled chicken over pasta or rice; add it to Peach Preserves for a sweet & spicy glaze over chicken; add it to your Jack Fruit for a vegetarian BBQ sandwich; or anything that may need a pick-me-up. There are more recipe ideas on the website.

The ”Kasaau Hot Sauce” has only four ingredients. I have three daughters therefore I wanted to use three unique peppers with the rice vinegar base. It has Cheyene, Habanero, and Chipotle peppers with just the right ratio to provide flavor and enough heat to not overwhelm the meal. Kasaau Hot Sauce is excellent on a fried eggs, grilled wings, smoked fish dip, or any item that could benefit from a little kick of flavor. The name is formed from the first two letters of my daughters’ names and rhymes with “ka-pow”.

These two unique sauces provide flavor alternatives and opportunities to assist anyone with their cooking adventures.

As Cactus & Clover continues to grow, we will add more flavors.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is not small task, and you have to have determination. There will be tough days and some exciting days but always learn from each experience. Being in the sauce business, you learn quickly that tastes vary, and everyone has their preference….but the positive is that people’s tastes are always changing. People get tired of the “same ole-same ole” and like variety. Therefore, a “no” could really be a “not now”…there is always opportunity in timing.
The biggest challenge is to convey that our sauces are not only direct application sauces but can be excellent cooking sauces to add a “twist” to an everyday meal or create something new. We have recipe ideas that we hand out to everyone that stops by so they can gain the concept of what we have to offer.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My career has been in the food processing industry for over 30 years. I can set a table from appetizer to dessert with the items I have been involved with. I started as a temporary worker on the production line, to project work, to equipment installations, and to managing facilities. The one constant I hold true is to listen to those around me. Everyone is here on Earth for a reason, and you need to respect the person for who they are. My goal is to be a benefit to those around me. We all succeed together.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
People. As I mentioned, I believe my purpose is to be a benefit to others. I have been blessed with opportunities to help others, and that cannot be squandered. Everything will not go correctly or the way we had imagined it, but we need to know we are not alone and we can make it through those moments.
From work life to cooking adventures, we need to be able to look back and enjoy what we do together.
