Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Felton.
Hi Alicia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I went to cosmetology school in 1995 after working in corporate America for six years and realizing that career path was not for me, I’ve always had a love for hair and makeup so I decided to try my hand in the beauty industry, not having any expectations as a full-time career but I quickly fell in love with the opportunity to be able to use my creativity and see the instant results on the faces of my clients. I worked in a salon as a full-time stylist for 14 years and was then presented with the opportunity to co-own a Salon, after four years with a business partner, I decided it was time to part ways to another salon which after a year and a half I was able to purchase that Salon from previous owner and finally I had my very own business which I have been running for almost seven years now. There have been many challenges especially trying to maintain a business through a pandemic but by the grace of God, I’m still here!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the struggles were finding reliable, consistent stylists to build a team for the salon and after the pandemic hit losing them all but one, I also struggled with learning how to maintain that business without stylists to keep up the financial part of the business but I then realized I had to step out of my box and learn to pivot. I also stepped out of my comfort zone during stay at home order, to offer virtual makeup classes which have now progressed into a hands on makeup class called the “Sip and Slay “ which has become very popular.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a hair and makeup artist, I specialize in creative hairstyles such as braids, color, precision cuts, extensions, chemical treatments, as a makeup artist, my aesthetic is natural Glam, the ability to transform a client into the best version of themselves with just a touch of razzle-dazzle! I am most proud of my skill to do both hair and makeup while offering supreme customer care, and what sets me apart from the rest is my love for what I do and the relatability which comes through in the relationship I build with my clients that keeps bringing them back.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Patience, understanding, relatability, willingness to learn, humility and continuing to educate myself.

You featured a true jewel. I remember when she decided on this career path and I continue to watch her add to her portfolio. I would love to see young ladies who are new in this industry to follow her and seek her guidance. She is definitely a role model. I’m so proud of her!!
