Today we’d like to introduce you to Camila Meyer
Hi Camila, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from Venezuela and emigrated to the United States in 2017 during one of the country’s largest migration waves, driven by a challenging political and economic situation. Music has always been a passion of mine, but 2017 was a turning point. During the protests in Venezuela, I would sing amidst the chaos, witnessing how people united in song. It was a powerful moment—despite shared pain, we found strength together. That experience revealed the transformative power of my voice and fueled my desire to create music that comforts and connects. Today, I’m dedicated to making music for those who need to feel seen, heard, and not alone.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. In fact, 2024 was one of the hardest years for me when it came to music. I faced numerous roadblocks—working with multiple producers who didn’t align with my vision, experiencing the loss of important relationships, and even feeling like I lost a sense of myself along the way. Despite it all, I never stopped writing music. Those struggles taught me resilience and clarity, and now, I’m stepping into 2025 with a renewed vision, exciting projects, and a drive to grow my career and accomplish my goals.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Venezuelan singer-songwriter currently residing in the U.S. My music is deeply rooted in honesty and vulnerability, as I write most of my songs during some of the darkest and most challenging moments of my life. Much of my work explores themes of heartbreak and complex emotions, because I believe that without sadness, we wouldn’t truly appreciate happiness.
My genre is experimental, though it primarily aligns with a ballad style. While I’ve predominantly written and sung in Spanish, I’m excited to explore new possibilities in the coming year by incorporating English into my work, creating a bilingual approach to connect with a broader audience.
What sets me apart is my commitment to authentic storytelling through music. Every lyric and melody comes from the heart, aiming to resonate with people who may feel alone in their struggles. I’m most proud of the way my music creates connections and offers comfort to those who need it most.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Of course, many people deserve credit for where I am today—starting with those who broke my heart! (Just kidding… but they did inspire a lot of my art.)
One person who made a profound impact on my journey is my high school chorus director, whose name I’ll keep private. He was my first real inspiration, teaching me the depth and meaning behind melodies and lyrics. A big part of who I am as a singer today is because of his influence.
My family has been my greatest support system. My mom, Ingrid, has stood by me through everything, always believing in my abilities and pushing me forward. My dad, Hans Dietlof, taught me the true meaning of love and kindness and has been my biggest fan from the very beginning.
I’m incredibly grateful to my manager, KC Stone, who saw my vision even before I did. During the hardest times in my career, KC was my strongest advocate, never giving up on me even when I struggled to believe in myself.
Lastly, a huge thanks to singer-songwriter Antonio Thornton, who is not only my best friend but also my songwriting buddy. His presence in my life has deepened my appreciation for music in countless ways.
To my friends, family, and everyone who listens to my music—you give my words purpose. Thank you for your support and for being part of my journey.
