Daily Inspiration: Meet Tatiana Drawneek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Drawneek

Hi Tatiana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For me, the need to create was always strong growing up. My fondest memories as a kid were staying up all night to work on random art projects with whatever supplies I could find in my room. The basis of my art has always been to dabble in this and that, creating whatever comes to mind, and pushing myself to try new mediums.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest hurdle was not only to come out of my shell, but just finding the time to showcase or even work on my art. Before I had started my business, I was a dance teacher for 20 years. While it was also one of my most beloved creative outlets, it took up a lot of the time I needed to create. I knew I wanted to get my work out into the world but it seemed so daunting on top of my teaching responsibilities. Retiring from dance gave me the ability to shift my priorities. Now that the ball’s rolling, it’s been pretty smooth sailing and a total blast!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Originally, I was the type to draw a lot, and colored pencils and acrylics were my general go-to for mediums. I had done some sculpting as a kid, but I seriously picked up polymer clay around 15 years ago and ran with it. I find it thrilling to see creations come to life in 3D.

As of now, I specialize in miniature polymer clay sculptures, and I strive to go smaller each time I work. Some of my original characters that have become popular over the years such as my Beholder Bud flowers, VūDoods, and Groovy Alien series. They’ve definitely become a staple of my work, but I really like to create whatever comes to mind. I feel if I’m not having fun with what I do, I don’t see a point to continue. Bonus points to those that appreciate my nonsense.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I grew up in Kissimmee, just outside of Orlando, since the late 80’s. I’ve watched so much change in our area, but it’s such a special place and I feel so lucky to be able to call it home. There’s so many opportunities here, especially for artists, to showcase work and interact with the public in meaningful ways. The art community here is absolutely incredible and are filled with some of the most supportive people I’ve ever met. I feel so honored so be a part of it all and hope to make a positive presence.
