Life & Work with Jasmin Alexa of Tampa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmin Alexa

Hi Jasmin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up I always had a passion for film making but never really had the opportunity to explore it. After high school I began writing scripts but decided to take up early childhood education. Soon after i picked up a camera & began doing photography and videography as a hobby which got me noticed by a few social media influencers. In 2016 I began to collaborate with influencers with both filming & editing their content & shortly after i decided to invest in my own production company & retired from teaching in 2019. It began very small with the little following i had due to my collaborations but it helped me go into the career path i am in & where i am today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say it was a struggle at first definitely because I moved from Ohio to Florida & I didn’t know anyone in the florida film industry. I was also very inexperienced as far as working on any film sets, I had never even been on a set. So it took a while to even get anyone to want to audition for my first short being that nobody knew who I was & I was also a rookie filmmaker.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m very well rounded. I’m a Writer, Director, Cinematographer, Producer & Editor. I specialize mostly in horror.

I’ve always been a horror fan so that is always my go to & I believe a lot of people when asking they would agree but I do touch onto other genres as well but who doesn’t like good scare.

I am most proud of my accomplishments & the way people have connected with the films I have made. That is what I love the most. 2023 and 2024 was amazing to the Scarehouse team. We have had the honor be nominated multiply times for awards as well as winners. I can’t sit back & say it was all me because without the amazing cast & crew in each production none of this would be possible.

I think what sets me apart from others is that I write stories that play with your mind. You never know what’s going to happen next or where it’s going to take you. I guess I like to lead with the unexpected in my films.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, definitely! As I mentioned earlier I produced my first short in 2020.

It was very hard continuously making sure everyone was in good heath & being tested on set even with a small scare but we managed to work our way through the process.

I worked on another set where everyone was great & shortly after filming everyone gotten sick. I would say always make sure everyone is in good health even when being sick days prior to filming to make sure
It runs smoothly with no complications.
