Today we’d like to introduce you to Tessa Williams
Hi Tessa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m Tess and I’m a self taught photographer and creative director in the Orlando Florida area. I’ve had a passion for photography since high school and after having my third child I finally decided to dive in and make something of it. After getting my Canon and practicing with my kiddos, I asked around to see if any local models would like to help me build my portfolio. Fast forward two years and now I host monthly events for creatives to meet and build THEIR portfolios. Since I am self taught I love to share what I’ve learned through trial and error so others can learn as well. I hope to eventually hold a styled photoshoot soon and continue to grow even more in this business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Photography was always something I did because I enjoyed it. So the toughest part for me is when I just dont have the time for a session. I have four kids at home and my youngest son was born three months early. At any given moment I need to be able to cancel or hold off on any shoots, which does end up stalling the creative ideas just a touch. But when that happens the kiddos just have to put up with being my models for a few extra sessions 😉
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For the past three years I’ve been a stay at home mom I have a ten year old, a three year old, a two year old, and a seven month old. I also homeschool. My youngest was born three months early and had that long of a NICU stay. Things can get especially hectic since it’s just me and my husband around. Besides being over proud of my children and their individual journey, I’d have to say that my own photography journey is what I’m most proud of. I never really dive into anything, I’m always afraid to fail to I’m always afraid to try. Photography was never like that. Even when I wasn’t great I stayed dedicated and practiced to get better. Even when I was busy I made the time for the sessions. And it has been amazing.
What sets me apart from others? I think my favorite part of photographing someone else is being able to show that person how beautiful they are. I love hyping up my models during a session and then seeing how happy are with their gorgeous results. Everyone deserves to feel fabulous at least once in their lives, I try to make that experience happen during my sessions.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
JUST DO IT! If your photos don’t look as good as someone else’s, if you aren’t getting bookings, if you’re only photographing those close to you or even yourself JUST DO IT! DO IT FOR YOU! Don’t compare yourself to anyone else and learn from critiques but dont let them break you. If you enjoy photography, just do it for you. The best thing about art is it’s subjective, it can be anything you want it to be. You are an artist, you are art. So get creating.
