We started Mobile Hibachi 4U during the later phase of the pandemic, when many of us were still adjusting to the new normal and looking for ways to bring joy into our homes. By this time, we had all been missing the simple pleasures of life, like dining out with friends and family. One thing we especially missed was the hibachi experience—the sizzling sounds, the knife tricks, the flames, and of course, the amazing food.

As we were brainstorming ways to make the most of this time and bring a little excitement back into our lives, the idea struck: what if we could bring that vibrant hibachi experience directly to people’s homes? With the pandemic still limiting social gatherings and dining out, we saw an opportunity to recreate that fun and interactive hibachi experience in a safe, private setting.

We started small, testing the idea with family and friends, and quickly realized that it wasn’t just the food people were excited about—it was the experience. People loved watching our chefs prepare their meals right in front of them, the interactive cooking, and the sense of fun and celebration it brought to their homes.

With that in mind, we focused on delivering high-quality, fresh ingredients and perfecting our cooking techniques. We trained our chefs not only to master hibachi cooking, but also to create a truly engaging experience. Our goal was to give people an unforgettable dining experience, all while keeping things safe, convenient, and exciting.

Since then, Mobile Hibachi 4U has continued to grow, and we’re so grateful for the opportunity to be part of people’s celebrations, big and small. Whether it’s a birthday, an anniversary, or just a fun night with loved ones, we’re honored to bring the hibachi experience to life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
t definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, and we’ve faced a number of challenges along the way—some expected and some unexpected. One of the biggest hurdles was adjusting to the shift from a traditional restaurant setting to a mobile hibachi catering service. In a restaurant, everything is set—there’s a fixed location, a set menu, and a defined way of interacting with customers. But when we brought hibachi to people’s homes, we had to adapt to a whole new way of working.

For one, communication with customers became a lot more nuanced. In a restaurant, you have face-to-face interactions and clear, immediate feedback. But with catering, especially when we started, we had to handle everything remotely—emails, phone calls, and sometimes last-minute changes to plans. We had to get used to making sure customers felt heard and understood, while also managing their expectations. The process of customizing their experience, from food choices to timing and special requests, required a lot more detailed coordination than we initially anticipated.

Scheduling also became a bit of a challenge. Unlike a restaurant where you have consistent hours and availability, we were now coordinating multiple events across different locations, often on the same day. It took a lot of planning and flexibility to make sure everything ran smoothly and that our chefs had enough time to set up, cook, and clean up in between events. This was especially tricky early on as we were learning to manage logistics and grow the business at the same time.

And then there’s the food selection. In a hibachi restaurant, the menu is typically set, but when catering, we wanted to offer customers more flexibility to choose their own meals. Selecting the right ingredients, ensuring freshness, and balancing variety while keeping it true to the hibachi experience was no easy task. We also had to constantly monitor supply chains, especially during the later phases of the pandemic, when sourcing quality ingredients sometimes became a challenge.

But over time, we’ve learned and adapted. We’ve refined our processes for communication, scheduling, and food selection. We’ve built stronger relationships with our customers and suppliers, and we’ve become better at anticipating and solving potential issues before they arise. While it hasn’t always been easy, these struggles have ultimately made us stronger, more efficient, and more committed to providing a top-notch experience.
