Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Rinewalt
Hi Katherine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I fell in love with calligraphy in 2018 after taking a class, and it quickly became a passion. By 2020, I turned that love into a full-time business. For me, it’s all about celebrating love and creating beautiful, meaningful details that make events unforgettable.
Starting my business right before the pandemic was a unique challenge, but I used that time to build my portfolio and focus on the backend of my business. Initially, I offered only calligraphy services, but over the years, I’ve expanded to include mirror signage, rentals, and stationery.
What sets my services apart is the personal, handcrafted touch. As a calligrapher, I create as much as I can by hand—you won’t find my scripts in a font catalog. It’s that extra layer of personalization and uniqueness that makes each event feel special and one-of-a-kind.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my journey has been seeing the relationships I’ve built pay off. Many of my leads come through referrals or SEO, which feels like a reflection of the time and effort I’ve invested in my business and my community.
For anyone starting a creative business, my advice is simple: go slow and make a plan. Building something meaningful takes time, but the journey is so worth it!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely had its challenges, especially since I started my business right before the pandemic in 2020. When events and weddings came to a sudden halt, it was a daunting time for someone just launching in an industry centered around celebrations. However, I used that downtime to build the foundation of my business. I focused on creating a strong portfolio, refining my craft, and strengthening the backend of my business, from setting up processes to building a website that reflects my brand.
As a solopreneur, every aspect of my business is handled by me—emails, design, production, delivery, and everything in between. Balancing all these roles can be overwhelming at times, especially as the business has grown. There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into making the client experience seamless and special.
Despite these challenges, I’ve learned to manage my time and prioritize building genuine connections with my clients and vendors. It hasn’t always been easy, but the growth and relationships I’ve fostered along the way have made it all worthwhile.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Rosebud Calligraphy?
