Today we’d like to introduce you to Koree J.
Hi Koree, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At the end of 2015 I went through a severe Hair Loss situation which led me to cut all my hair off. I had just turned 18 and this was devastating for me, so I began creating wigs for myself.
In 2016 I moved to Daytona Beach, Florida to attend Bethune Cookman University where many ladies wanted me to do their wigs; both create and install them.
Doing hair was something I thought about briefly when I graduated high school early and attended cosmetology school at 17. Upon entering cosmetology school, I did not think that Hair was for me and thus dropped out & went on to attend my HBCU.
With this history, I could not ignore God‘s second call to hair and eventually began doing hair out of my dorm room. In 2017 I created what is now Koree J’s Boutique as “Wig by Koree J.”.
Since then, I have completely fallen in love with the Business aspect of cosmetology and the beauty industry in itself.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been easy, and in fact has had plenty of bumps twist and turns. At the end of 2021 I gave birth to my son and had to take a small hiatus from Business in order to get acclimated as a new mother. Prior to this I was a full-time business owner, which took a lot of hard work, dedication and adaptability. The biggest challenge for me in Business is not getting burnt out and breaking the spirit of procrastination.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Koree Js Boutique?
People should know that being a business owner and a cosmetologist is so much more than what they see. So much behind the scenes and I put my heart into my craft because I genuinely love what I do!
I specialize in luxury hair care and extensions as well as content creation. My business is best known for being an all inclusive experience, where washing, specialized hair treatments and extensions are part of my service packages. The inclusive experience, my professionalism and genuine love for my art are the things that set me apart from other beauty brands that may offer similar services. My business marketing degree and current cosmetology school enrollment also greatly elevates my brand. I am proud to walk in my purpose through my brand, pour into my clients and create a safe space for them.
My brand has an online store Shop.KoreeJsBoutique.com where those who are not local can still have a luxury hair experience.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned through my journey of being a business owner is to literally stay down until you come up and consult God before EVERY Business decision. Over time Ive also learned that my brand is to serve others and in order to do so, I have to take myself out of it and allow God and the consumers to take control of my direction so that I can fulfill my purpose.
