Today we’d like to introduce you to Kareem Everison
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
So I grew up in Worcester Massachusetts in a single parent home i am the middle child having two sisters one older and the other younger. I moved to Florida in 2017. I was a huge wrestling fan growing up and my favorite wrestlers were Shawn Michaels, The Rock, and Stone Cold Steve Austin because of my love for wrestling i started doing backyard wrestling for fun but after moving to florida i was inspired to pursue wrestling professionally so I began Independent Professional Wrestling training at the legendary Professional Wrestling training academy in tampa fl owed by retired wwe wrestler Fred Ottman known as Tugboat/Typhoon. after training for a year under the guidance of the head trainer coach Frank Reyes i had my first pro wrestling debut match on October 13th in 2018 as The King of Cool Kareem Everison at a local wrestling promotion, pride of wrestling POW.
I’ve wrestled a few matches at local wrestling shows and promotions untill January 2022 when wrestling veteran Mike Mcclaskey who was like a mentor to me seen a casting Call on social media for a movie they were looking for young african American guys 18-30 with an athletic background for a martial arts movie “Paper Line” so mike sent all the info to me and he said this sounds like something you would be great at sounds like the King of Cool. So i submitted photos and videos of myself and had a zoom call with the writer and director Ryan Watson and his producer Marissa, shortly after I got cast in the film Paper Line in the role of a character named Roman he is a member of a secret Fraternity of martial artist at an HBUC in florida. My experience being on the set of Paper Line gave me the acting bug and I fell in love with acting and started auditioning and being apart of other independent films as a lead, supporting lead and extra roles. I also signed to Level talent agency in 2022 i eventually got inspired to start writing, producing and creating stunt choreography for my own short films like
“Dream Reelz” In 2022 which I play an action hero Jason Jackson the film Was inspired by Comic Books, 007 James Bond and Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal Music Video. The second film I wrote and produced is
“Spiritual Lenses” 2023 and i was nominated for best director for that film at the International Christian Film and Music Festival 2024 in orlando and now both Dream Reelz and Spiritual Lenses are streaming on
Phoenix Rising TV. I also
Co wrote a film with
Mike Mcclaskey titled Guard My Heart I star in this film as a security guard named Devin who fights off burglars attempting to steal his close friend and artist Michelle’s valuable heart painting from inside of her newly renovated art gallery. I painted alot of the art featured in the film including the valuable heart painting it was a collaboration piece between myself and Actress Alexia Rivera. the Martial Arts Choreography in the film Guard My Heart was put together by Alvin C Eberhardt known by Ace who Is one of the cast member as well as Stunt Coordinator In the film Paper line and a
Nappy Ninjas stunt team member which i am apart of. We had a very successful movie theater premiere for Guard My Heart at Cinema 6 movie theater in New Port Richey back in October 2024 and also at the Chill Cawfee in Valrico Fl which was one of the key locations that we used to film the art gallery scenes in Guard My Heart. My latest Film Unknown Kingdom a Faith Based Action Drama I Co Directed and Produced with Christian Actor and Comedian Maurice Brown with Cinematography shot by Isaiahs Reyes
Eye Reyes Photography who also shot my film Spiritual lenses which was an Inspiration for bringing Unknown Kingdom to life. we just submitted unknown Kingdom to film festivals after our successful first look screening at Studio Lot Orlando along with another film
“The Night Shift Security” which I wrote to help raise awareness about domestic violence and show security officers in a positive light in this film i play the lead role of security officer James Cooper who while on duty during his first night working night shift security at an apartment complex courageously intervenes in a domestic violence situation to protect a woman from her abusive partner. The film was shot in Kissimmee and Orlando by Myles Lavelle Augusteighteen.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part I’d say yes it has been a smooth road as far as writing and casting actors for my film projects thats the easy part but where I’d say it’s a bit of a struggle sometimes would be on the logistics side of things like creating a film budget for my projects that I have mostly funded all out of pocket. What I think can also sometimes be a bit of a struggle is finding a healthy balance between acting in my own written and Produced work or acting and working on projects out side of my own.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do acting, Stunts and writing screenplays and scripts for short films i am expanding towards writing feature length films. I am Known as
Big Screen Kareem i am an actor and stunt talent I have put together stunt choreography for my own films and two films so far for other filmmakers
. I am the C.E.O of my own Production company
Big Screen Kareem Productions. What sets me apart from others is that I’m not just an actor i am a writer, producer stunt performer, a creater with a background experience in professional wrestling and martial arts I’m also a christian and I always in some way try to incorporate my faith and the love of stunts and fight choreography in my movies. I am most proud of seeing the vision of my films go from an idea a, script to film and seeing it all put together and watched on the Big Screen.
How do you define success?
I define success by my goals and Individually reaching each of them like for me personally I can say I have had success in my film career because I am actively living my dream making and acting in movies.
I have reached many goals I set and had in mind for each film project of my own or even outside of my own. I have landed paid acting gigs and hosted successful movie premieres, seen my work come to life on
the Big screen, people showing up and supporting my films giving me positive feedback and enjoying my work i consider this success I have even earned money from tickets sold at my film premieres and I define all of these things as success.
