Today we’d like to introduce you to Gena Gray
Hi Gena, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey began when I became a mother and realized how overwhelming it could be. I often felt isolated and craved connection with other moms. This inspired me to create ‘Mommy Wants a Break’ as a community where mothers could share their experiences and support each other.
My goal is to empower moms to take care of themselves and remind them that it’s okay to ask for help. I believe every mom deserves a break!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road! There have been many challenges along the way. One of the biggest struggles was finding the right balance between my personal life and the demands of building ‘Mommy Wants a Break.’ There were times when I felt overwhelmed and questioned whether I was doing enough for my family while also pursuing this passion.
In addition, gaining visibility and building an engaged community took time. I faced moments of self-doubt, especially when growth slowed or when content I was excited about didn’t resonate with others.
Funding and resources were also challenging as I tried to expand my platform, and navigating partnerships and collaborations required careful planning and perseverance. Despite these struggles, each setback has taught me valuable lessons and has made the successes even more rewarding. I’m grateful for the support of the community and the connections I’ve built along the way, which have helped me push through the tougher moments.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m glad to share more about my work! At ‘Mommy Wants a Break,’ I focus on creating a supportive community for moms who are navigating the challenges of parenthood. I specialize in providing resources on self-care, mental health, and parenting tips, all aimed at empowering mothers to prioritize their well-being.
What sets me apart is my emphasis on genuine connection and relatability. I strive to create a space where moms can share their experiences openly, knowing they’re not alone in their struggles. I’m also proud of the partnerships I’ve built with mental health professionals, which allow us to offer expert advice and valuable resources to our community.
One of my proudest achievements has been organizing events that bring moms together, fostering friendships and support networks that make a real difference in their lives. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the impact of our community and to know that we’re helping moms take the breaks they deserve while supporting each other on this journey.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor and networking can really boost your growth! One thing that’s worked for me is being proactive—don’t hesitate to reach out to people you admire or shoot them a quick note of appreciation. Attending workshops or events and using social media like LinkedIn can help you meet like-minded individuals.
The key is to build genuine relationships. Show interest in others and offer your support, as mentorship is a two-way street. I’ve gained valuable insights from every connection I’ve made, so keep an open mind and be patient—networking takes time but can lead to amazing opportunities!
