Life & Work with Andrea Avila of Altamonte springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Avila.

Andrea Avila

Hi Andrea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve known since a young age that doing hair was my passion. Growing up I was steered in different directions by other people but I always found myself coming back to the beauty industry. The plan was to go to cosmetology school after I graduated high school. But shortly after I graduated, I found out I was pregnant. I made it through my pregnancy and when my son was six weeks old, I enrolled in cosmetology. 13 months later I graduated in 2015. This year, I will reach my 10 year mark as a hairstylist. I’ve gained an amazing clientele, that I can almost consider family. I’m still super passionate about it and plan on continuing it for a very long time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My pregnancy wasn’t a struggle, but it was a step back. I wasn’t able to start as soon as I wanted to, but I knew it’s something I wanted to do so I got it done as soon as I could. Navigating cosmetology school with a newborn and being a first time mom wasn’t easy, and it also delayed the process a little bit. But I had tunnel vision throughout the whole thing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do a little bit of everything when it comes to hair. But I specialize in highlighting/balayage. Most of my clients come to me for the lived in, effortless looks. Which happens to be what I’m most proud of what I feel sets me apart from others is my personality when it comes to my clients I treat them as friends/family not just my source of income.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was always a social butterfly growing up my interest where really anything that was in the beauty industry. When I was in high school I started with bridal or special occasion events. Then I transition into doing nails. Up until I was licensed as a hairstylist, then I only did hair after that.
