Today we’d like to introduce you to Face DaMusic.
Hi Face, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Indiana. I have had family that lived in Florida since before I was born. I used to go down to the West Palm/Boynton Area every summer and Christmas break from school to see my Grandparents. They used to take me to Disney all the time. I think I had been to Disney World 10 or 12 times before I moved down here this time. So Disney was a big deal to me growing up. My wife likes it too. So when we had kids, they caught some of that bug. Fast forward to December or 2020. Right in the middle of the Pandemic. The wife and I manage to throw together a Christmas trip to Disney for the kids as a surprise Christmas present. When we got back, all I heard for months was “We want to go back to Florida” or ” We want to move to Florida so we can wear flip flops and shorts all year”. So finally after months of being ganged-up-on, in what would seem to be coordinated attacks from my wife and kids, I finally gave in and in August of 2021 packed it all up and moved to Daytona. Spent a couple years there working, then had an opportunity to get a spot near Disney. Here we are.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of coarse not. Life has happened at every turn. I’ve lost several family members back home since I’ve been here. I’ve been laid off from a couple jobs since I’ve been here. Cost of living here is more than where I came from. Florida is a different culture than Indiana. So the entire journey has been challenging. But there have been some great times as well. Some things are better. That’s what it is all about. Life nor Success either one are destinations. They are both journeys. I like the journey. The new and different experiences, places, things, etc. We all do. Me, my wife, my kids, all of us. Some of it sucks. We complain some, put our heads down, and “thug it out” as my kids would say. We keep going until it changes. Some of it is great. Like the memories my kids and wife tell me they have. Making the new ones. When it’s all said and done, I would rather be the guy telling my grandkids, “you know what I did when I was younger?” or “You know what I saw…?” or “…where I went?” Life is about the experience I think. We are a nomadic people, me and mine. We move around. Sometimes you have to change your angle to change your perspective.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an artist. My main medium is music. I am an artist that raps. I am not a rapper trying to make art, as I believe there is a distinction between the two. I am an emcee. Real hip-hop type stuff. I make music. It is how I vent and express myself. It’s how I process my feelings. Anger, sadness, happiness, or otherwise. It just so happens that, if I record myself venting and expressing those thoughts and feelings and put them someplace other people can observe them, some people like the way I express all of that. Some people find it helpful for them too. That part is a great feeling! People accepting your art and vulnerability is also a really great feeling. A bonus but still great feelings. It helps the motivation and drive sometimes too. Helps give you a nudge when you wanna stop and such. What I am known for is music. In what way, would be determined by who you ask. To some I am only known as a rapper or emcee. To others I’m known as the marketing and promo guy. Some will tell you I am a producer and engineer. Some might tell you I’m the guy you want on your music trivia team at the bar. The one thing they will all tell you is music is the common denominator. What I am most proud of…hmmm…in all honesty, the fact I have had the musical journey I have had. My entire music “history” is crazy and of coarse I’m biased but it’s almost like a movie script. I’m just working towards the climax/peak/top of the arc right now. I’m starting to see some results in this area of the game. I have worked on some big promo/marketing campaigns. I have produced some remixes for some pretty big artists. I have done some songs with bigger names. I have recorded some larger names, I’ve done security and body guard work for some huge names, and so on. The whole thing is crazy because I am a bit older than a lot of these other guys. I’ve been at it for a while and because I have seen it grow from tapes and CDs to Bluetooth, Streaming, and iPhones. Hand to hand promotion, 106 & Park, and TRL to Social Media, Targeted Ads, and AI, I have a different perspective, thought process, and way of approaching it all than a lot of these other guys. I have a respect and love for the culture. I respect the history. I am not just “chasing some paper”. I’m not just trying to “secure the bag”. I am hip-hop. The physical embodiment of that word. The same thing I am proud of, is the same thing that separates me from others. That and my tone, vocal texture, and cadence. I don’t sound like anybody else. Of coarse you can hear some of my influences, but you aren’t going to confuse me, my voice, or my style for another artist.
How do you think about luck?
I am not one of those guys that is going to sit here and say “I don’t believe in luck” or any of that. I do and I think luck plays apart in everybody’s life at some point. Now, I do believe you can improve your chances of the luck or the effects of the luck. But I think a piece of luck maybe a numbers game. Like you have to get through 10 no’s to get a yes type thing. I also believe you can make somethings happen out of sheer motivation and drive. But regardless of any of that, what I DO KNOW is fortune favors the bold and closed mouths don’t get fed. Taking both of those things into consideration when planning a move and moving can for sure help improve your probability of good luck and/or success.
