Check Out Carl Joseph’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carl Joseph

Hi Carl, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Queens, NY, and my introduction to art was sparked by watching other students create in school, as well as by my father, who was also talented in art. Seeing their creativity inspired me and encouraged me to explore my own artistic abilities. I studied art throughout middle and high school, further developing my skills and passion.

After graduating high school in 2006, I initially pursued graphic design in college but soon realized that my true passion lay in painting. This led me to shift my focus, and I ultimately earned a bachelor’s in arts from the University of Central Florida.

Beyond my education, my passion for art deepened when I began researching my family’s history and Haitian culture. Exploring my heritage opened many creative doors for me and made me fall in love with learning new things. Becoming a teacher and attending art shows further reinforced my artistic purpose, as I realized how many of us are unaware of our own history. This gave me even more motivation to use art as a way to educate and preserve cultural narratives.

There is also a strong spiritual element to my art. I see creativity as a way to connect with something greater than myself a force that guides my expression and allows me to translate emotions, ancestral wisdom, and cultural identity onto the canvas. My work is not only about storytelling and representation but also about channeling energy, intuition, and deeper meaning into each piece.

For me, art is more than just creative expression it is a means of storytelling, spiritual reflection, and connection to the past. Through my work, I strive to bring history to life, inspire others to explore their own cultural roots, and create art that resonates on a deeper, soulful level

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has not been a smooth one. One of the biggest challenges I faced was choosing to study art in the first place. Growing up in a Haitian household, art was not seen as a viable career path but rather as a hobby. I was encouraged to pursue something more traditional, but my passion for art was too strong to ignore.

Another challenge has been finding the balance between creativity and the business side of being an artist. I firmly believe that to succeed, one must understand both aspects. Throughout my journey, I have faced many obstacles, but what truly matters is how you navigate and overcome them. Each challenge has only strengthened my determination and growth as an artist.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an artist with a diverse creative practice, specializing in a mix of graphic design, fine art, and live art performances. I create custom logos, book covers, album covers, flyers, and murals. My work blends various styles, often drawing from my Haitian heritage and personal experiences. I’m known for using art as a medium of empowerment, self-expression, and cultural storytelling. The themes of unity and personal growth run through much of my work, often expressed through hidden faces in my abstract compositions, symbolizing the diverse beauty of human experience.

What sets me apart is my ability to seamlessly integrate creativity with purpose. I’ve always believed that art has the power to connect people to something greater than themselves. Whether it’s through a commissioned mural, a personal painting, or a live painting performance, I aim to inspire others to reflect on their own strength, history, and potential. I’m also passionate about education, offering 1-on-1 lessons to students, and I host sip-and-paint events for both adults and children, making art accessible to all ages.

I’m most proud of how my work resonates with others not only in terms of artistic appreciation but also in how it sparks introspection and encourages personal growth. Whether it’s through teaching, live performances, or the impact of my visual work, I take pride in the way my art connects with and empowers others. What drives me is the belief that everyone has the power to achieve greatness, and my work is a reflection of that journey.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I have a strong curiosity and enjoy learning about a wide range of topics, from science and spirituality to religion. Lately, I’ve developed a particular interest in stocks, which has become a new obsession of mine. I’m also really into fitness, as I believe in maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
