Daily Inspiration: Meet Matthew Collins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Collins

Hi Matthew, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I didn’t have the smoothest path to where I am today. As a teenager and young adult, I made a lot of poor decisions that led me down a destructive road of addiction and bad choices. I reached a breaking point where I felt completely out of control, ashamed of the life I was living, and desperate for change. One night, I found myself completely broken, crying out to God, asking Him to pull me out of the mess I had created.

He answered—but not in the way I expected. A short time later, I was in a car accident that led to my arrest. It felt like I had lost everything, but in reality, God was setting me up for something greater. I went through a long process of rebuilding—starting with a year in Teen Challenge, where I truly surrendered my life to Christ and learned that God doesn’t just pull us out of struggles; He walks through them with us. That realization changed everything.

Before that turning point, I had served in the United States Army, and while I didn’t fully appreciate it at the time, my time in the military instilled in me a deep sense of discipline and punctuality—two things that would later become foundational to how I run my business today. The structure, the attention to detail, and the expectation of showing up on time and doing things the right way were lessons that stuck with me, even though it took me years to really put them into practice.

After my time in the Army, I worked for Publix Supermarkets, and it was there that I learned the importance of customer service and company culture. Publix set a high standard for how employees should interact with customers, how businesses should operate with integrity, and how a strong culture can set a company apart. That experience shaped the way I approach my business today—ensuring that clear communication, respect, and professionalism are at the heart of what we do at Collins Kitchen and Bath.

Eventually, I knew I wanted more—I wanted to build something meaningful, something that allowed me to provide for my family while also creating a life where I could be fully present for them. That’s when I met my wife, Hannah. She came into my life at exactly the right time, and together, we built something incredible.

We started Collins Kitchen and Bath out of a desire to create a business that aligned with our values—integrity, craftsmanship, and a commitment to serving others. In the beginning, I worked for a remodeling company, but when they relocated, we decided to take a leap of faith. We started small, taking on any jobs we could get, and through hard work and dedication, we grew into a company specializing in high-end kitchen and bathroom remodeling.

Our business is more than just construction—it’s about transformation, both in the spaces we renovate and in the lives we touch. Every project we take on is done with excellence, not just because we take pride in our work, but because we believe in doing everything as if we’re working for the Lord. Faith has shaped every step of our journey, and God has provided in ways I never could have imagined. Today, Collins Kitchen and Bath is a testament to His faithfulness, the power of perseverance, and the importance of family. We’re grateful for the opportunities we’ve had to serve homeowners in Central Florida, and we look forward to continuing to build something that honors both our craft and our calling.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? Definitely not—but I wouldn’t expect it to be. Any business that strives for excellence will face challenges, and Collins Kitchen and Bath has been no exception.

In the early days, the biggest hurdle was simply getting started. I had the skills, the work ethic, and the drive, but building a steady pipeline of projects, earning a reputation, and managing cash flow were all things I had to learn through experience. There were times when I questioned if we had made the right decision, but we stayed the course, relied on hard work, and delivered quality results, which led to word-of-mouth referrals and repeat clients.

As we grew, another major challenge was scaling without sacrificing quality. Finding the right people—those who align with our values of integrity, responsiveness, and craftsmanship—isn’t easy. It’s one thing to teach skills, but it’s another to find team members who take ownership of their work and understand the high standards we hold. That process of hiring, training, and ensuring consistency has been an ongoing challenge, but we’ve worked hard to build a team that reflects what Collins Kitchen and Bath stands for.

Another struggle has been navigating economic fluctuations and industry changes. Material costs, labor shortages, and shifts in client expectations all require adaptability. Early on, I learned that staying ahead of the curve—whether it’s through refining processes, investing in technology, or improving client communication—is essential for long-term success. We’re not just in the business of construction; we’re in the business of problem-solving.

Ultimately, while the road hasn’t been smooth, every challenge has forced us to improve. I don’t see obstacles as setbacks—I see them as opportunities to refine our approach, strengthen our systems, and become better at what we do. We’ve built this business with a focus on craftsmanship, communication, and delivering an exceptional client experience, and that commitment has carried us through the toughest moments.

Would I say it’s been easy? No. But I’d say it’s been worth every lesson along the way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Collins Kitchen and Bath, we specialize in high-end kitchen and bathroom remodeling, bringing a level of craftsmanship and attention to detail that transforms everyday spaces into something exceptional. Our focus is on delivering not just a finished product, but an experience—one that prioritizes clear communication, professionalism, and a seamless process from start to finish.

We are known for our precision, quality, and commitment to doing things the right way. Clients come to us because they want a contractor they can trust—someone who will show up on time, stay on schedule, and deliver high-level craftsmanship without cutting corners. Our reputation has been built on these principles, and it’s what keeps homeowners coming back to us and referring us to others.

What I’m Most Proud Of:
One of the things I’m most proud of is how we’ve built a company that reflects integrity, responsiveness, and excellence in craftsmanship. We’ve established a strong reputation in Central Florida because we take ownership of every project as if it were our own home. We communicate proactively, keep our clients informed, and ensure that every detail is handled with precision. Seeing a client’s reaction when we bring their vision to life is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

What Sets Us Apart?
Meticulous Craftsmanship & Execution – We don’t believe in shortcuts. Every aspect of our work, from framing to finishing touches, is done with precision and care.
Clear Communication & Responsiveness – One of the biggest frustrations homeowners have with contractors is lack of communication. We solve that by keeping clients informed at every stage of the project, answering questions quickly, and ensuring there are no surprises.
A Team That Loves What They Do – One of the things that truly sets us apart is our team. Our employees love what they do, and it shows in their work. We’re not just building kitchens and bathrooms—we’re crafting spaces that people will use every single day, and that’s something our team takes immense pride in. Beyond that, our clients love our employees just as much as we do. We consistently hear from homeowners about how polite, professional, and hardworking our team is, and that means everything to us.
A Business Built on Integrity – Our name and reputation mean everything. If we say we’re going to do something, we do it. If an issue arises, we handle it professionally and honestly.
At the end of the day, we’re not just remodeling kitchens and bathrooms—we’re helping people invest in their homes, enhance their lifestyles, and enjoy spaces that truly reflect their style and needs. That’s what drives us, and that’s what makes Collins Kitchen and Bath different.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk is unavoidable, but it must be calculated to the highest degree. Everything we do in our business is planned, thought through, and strategically executed. But sometimes, you just have to jump off the cliff and build the plane on the way down. That’s the reality of running a business—there are moments where no amount of planning can eliminate the unknown, and you have to trust your preparation, your instincts, and ultimately, God’s plan.

I don’t consider myself reckless, but I do believe that calculated risks are necessary for growth—both in business and in life. The key is ensuring that the risks you take are backed by preparation, discipline, and trust in the process.

One of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken was starting Collins Kitchen and Bath. I had a steady job in remodeling, but when the company I worked for relocated, my wife and I had a choice to make. We could play it safe and look for another job, or we could take a leap of faith and start something of our own. We knew that running a business meant uncertainty—projects come and go, the economy shifts, and there’s never a guaranteed paycheck. But we also knew that if we did things the right way, stayed disciplined, and provided real value, we could build something lasting. So we took the risk, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.

Another major risk was investing in our company’s growth. As we scaled, there were moments when we had to decide whether to take on bigger projects, hire more employees, or invest in better systems. Each of these choices carried risk—what if the work slowed down? What if the numbers didn’t add up? But I’ve learned that playing it too safe can hold you back just as much as being reckless can. Instead of making fear-based decisions, I try to make faith-based, strategic decisions—analyzing the numbers, planning ahead, and trusting that if we keep operating with integrity, the right opportunities will come.

That said, risk isn’t just about business moves. It’s also about reputation. Every project we take on is a risk because we put our name and credibility on the line. Our reputation means everything, and we don’t take shortcuts just to increase profits or take on work that we can’t deliver at the highest level. Some might see that as a risk—turning down a job if it doesn’t fit our standards—but I see it as staying true to what makes us successful in the first place.

At the end of the day, risk is a necessary part of growth, but it should never be reckless. We plan, we calculate, and we prepare for every possible outcome. But when the time comes, sometimes you just have to jump, adapt, and trust in the work you’ve put in to carry you through.
