Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Gustafson.
Hi Paige, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I graduated college, I was struggling to find my fit as an adult. I had graduated from Albion College Spring 2015 and started a career in B2B sales, I hated it. I had the opportunity to work with my dad assisting at a wedding and it was game over. I second shot my first wedding July 17th, 2015 and since then, I have photographed over 150 weddings. Some people have asked me why weddings and the answer is simple, they’re beautiful, they’re chaos, and absolute perfection even when they don’t go according to plan. When I started my photography career, I was lucky to use as many resources as possible from my Favorite “Youtube University” learning new tricks and how to just be a better photographer and second, there have been great mentors in my career from my dad to people I follow on Instagram all over the world always lending a hand. Things really started to come together for me when I decided what style I wanted to be and what I like to look at, which believe it or not, I developed from looking at work on Instagram and Pinterest. Angela Nelson Photo out of Hawaii is who I aspire to be with her creativity and just beautiful bright, vibrant colors. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the community of Photographers in my area.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a creative always has its challenges for me right when I started to get going with my career in the Metro Detroit area, I decided to pick up my life and move to Central Florida. I knew no one when I moved to Florida, I had no clients, I had no preferred venues, I only had my portfolio. Thankfully over the years, I have developed relationships with clients and venues who have loved working with me so much that they have added me to their preferred vendor lists.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So I am known for specializing in wedding and engagement photography. While I do photograph almost anything and everything, these are my favorites! I love the connection between a couple. I am most proud of making a name for myself, people have started to recognize my work and I also have had the honor of being featured in a few magazines. In my area, the big thing that sets me apart is the bright and vibrant photographs I produce.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck is a tough one, I am lucky to be a player in what some will call the biggest life event you can have. I have been very lucky to always find a community of photographers who have welcomed me as friends and their peers.
