Hidden Gems: Meet Kimberly Canada of Park & Patina Design Build

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Canada

Hi Kimberly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We love the idea of “patina”, quality, thoughtful design, artistry, and builds that grow better with time, just like the homes we give back to our clients. Our story starts with a craftsman from a little town in Indiana. Sean’s dad, Clark, moved to Orlando and taught his sons everything he knew about refinishing, building, and woodworking. He passed on a beautiful tradition of taking something old and worn, investing time and care to restore it to new life and transforming organic materials into useful items.

Sean took his father’s passion, and his own drive to create, and turned Park & Patina Design + Build into what it is now. In between, were many years of refining his skills, and working on remodels and new builds around the Orlando area. Sean married Kimberly, his highschool sweetheart and now they make up the leadership and visioning team for their boutique design + build firm.

Our mission statement is “Creating lasting experiences through memorable homes infused with modern luxury”.
At our core is the concept that beautiful design and quality construction come together to be something greater than the sum of its parts. At Park & Patina, we design homes that elevate the way our clients live, which will only get better with time. Because of our focus on timeless design, quality materials, and expert craftsmanship, our clients can be confident that their home will be an incredible investment where they will have many lasting experiences
and create years of cherished memories.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Construction is no easy task and there have been some challenges over the years. Each project comes with it’s surprises behind the walls or during the build. While these may result in a few change orders for the homeowners, we strive to plan & anticipate as much as possible to keep change orders to a minimum.

We regularly adjust our process to anticipate and plan for as many potential challenges as possible on each individual project. We do this by taking time in our design process to include custom walks with our trade partners and investigation prior to contract. This allows us to have conversations with our client of what to expect, include what is needed in the contract and give a heads up on what could be potential increases once we get started. The ultimate goal is a smoother process for our client and the least amount of surprises possible!

As you know, we’re big fans of Park & Patina Design Build. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
There are a few things that set us apart from others in our area. First, we are a design forward company. We believe every homeowner deserves a meticulously planned project where every detail is considered before construction begins. A thoughtful approach means visualizing the finished result, anticipating challenges, and creating detailed plans that respect both aesthetic desires and practical requirements. This careful preparation ultimately leads to smoother execution, fewer unexpected costs, and results that truly reflect the homeowner’s vision. Second, we are both owned and run by a state licensed residential contractor who is an active part of our daily business and projects. A great question for homeowners to ask before hiring anyone to work on their home! It is important to know who holds the license and how active they are in the day-to-day. Third, we will always strive to add value to any clients or potential clients process, even if it does not benefit us.We will point you in the right direction for your project because our commitment extends beyond securing contracts. We desire to foster genuine relationships built on trust and mutual respect. Whether you choose our services or not, providing honest guidance that serves your best interests remains our priority, as we understand that integrity in this industry is not just good business—it’s the foundation of a community we’re proud to help build. Fourth, we have a “last 10% rule” in our client relationships. This means we encourage clients to share any lingering questions or concerns they might be hesitant to bring up. Complete transparency leads to better outcomes. Lastly, we take communication very seriously–which means we prioritize multiple outlets for communication for both our clients and team. Along with emails, texts, and calls, we use an online system that our clients and team can log into to see daily logs of activity along with a dynamic schedule for their project. Additionally, our in-house design team is a key advantage of our design-build approach. Having designers as part of our staff creates a more seamless process for your entire project, eliminating the communication gaps that often occur between separate design and construction teams.

As a company, our favorite projects are full home renovations and additions! This is allows us to swoop through a home and create a beautifully cohesive experience for our clients. At minimum, we do a full room like a kitchen or primary bathroom.

As a company, our passion truly shines in full home renovations and additions. These extensive projects allow us to transform an entire living space with a cohesive vision, ensuring that each room flows naturally into the next while maintaining a harmonious design throughout. When we have the opportunity to reimagine a complete home, we can address structural inefficiencies, update outdated systems, and create thoughtful connections between spaces that might otherwise feel disconnected. The holistic approach means we can coordinate all design elements—from architectural details to lighting plans, material selections to color palettes—resulting in a home that feels intentionally designed rather than pieced together over time.

While we excel at comprehensive transformations, we also dedicate the same level of attention and craftsmanship to single-room projects. At minimum, we take on complete kitchen remodels or primary bathroom renovations. Even when focused on a single room, we consider how it integrates with adjacent areas to ensure your home maintains a seamless, thoughtfully designed atmosphere.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
We measure our success by how our clients feel in their home long after the project is complete. During our process, we ask clients to envision their daily experience six months after completion. The true test of our work comes when we visit months later and find that we’ve successfully created the environment they imagined. Success means our clients feel their needs were genuinely heard and understood—to the point where they would willingly undertake the renovation journey again. Our ultimate goal is simple but meaningful: to create spaces where our clients can authentically live their unique stories in their homes. When we achieve this, we’ve truly succeeded.

A family with two young children temporarily moved out while we remodeled most of their home. The disruption wasn’t easy—packing everything, uprooting routines, and living elsewhere for months took its toll on everyone. When they finally returned to their transformed space, one of the children looked around at their beautiful new home and simply said, “It was all worth it, Mom.” This moment—is exactly why we do what we do.
