Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique (MoZaic) Lord
Hi Monique, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a recovering band geek. Haha I’ve played several instruments throughout grade school. Started singing in church back home in NY. My stage name was given by my college sorority Zeta Phi Beta sorority, Incorporated. Some of my first stages were at Touch the Mic in downtown Orlando. My style comes from my upbringing of hip hip, jazz, gospel, reggae and r and b. I love emoting on stage as you can probably tell from my performance pictures. Music has saved my life in so many ways. It’s therapeutic for me and gives me purpose. I hope you get consumed into my world. 🙂
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think life has many real smooth roads. The rockiness and turbulence provide character, resilience and strength. So I’m grateful for it all. I’ve been compared to others in my community. I’ve been heckled off stage. I was told I wasn’t as good as others. I’ve had family and friends belittle my performances and not support. It’s all apart of the journey. Some of my greatest supporters have come from strangers. I’m ok with it all because at the end of the day everyone’s level of success is different. My version of happiness in this career has made my heart full and I embrace it fully.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer, songwriter and musician. I specialize in brining people on an emotional journey with me and a view into my world. I am proud that I have opened for Maze and Frankie Beverly. I am proud that I have music placed overseas. I am proud I have placed music for the Facebook Sound Collection and Instagram. The music on this collection has been used worldwide and been seen millions of times. My music has been used by major companies for promotions on reels such as Walmart, Donna’s Recipe and IKEA. I have performed for thousands and also for a handful of people. The performance still remains full and deep no matter what.
Lastly and most certainly not least is that I’m SUPER proud that I’m dropping my 4th studio album called Tumultuous Tales in the coming months. It’s produced by Tzar and has features with him and Okito. This new project is a love letter to Hip Hop and I’m really excited to show you all a different version of my artistry. Stay tuned!
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I am also a nurse so my view during the Covid-19 crisis as well as being a creative are very interesting. I’ve learned that I’m immensely grateful to be an artist. Performing after Covid was scary and it didn’t feel the same to be honest. Also, staying authentic and allowing people into your lives as much as you’d like is key. Social media is a tool. There’s more emphasis on social media due to the pandemic but do as your heart feels always.
