Life & Work with Rickchele Malone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rickchele Malone.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all began in 2005 when I went to community college for Radio &TV Broadcasting! I always loved to know the behind-the-scenes of tv and films that I watched when I was younger, so being able to experience it for myself and getting paid to do it was something I wanted to do! Once I graduated, I began working at a local tv station in Montgomery, AL and also I had an internship with a local radio station as well! I learned about the audio board, producing talk radio, station cameras, graphics and on-air hosting!

Eventually, after I learned everything that I wanted to know about TV news and radio I wanted to learn more but on a bigger scale so I started looking into film school and luckily I was watching The Daily Buzz that was being filmed on Full Sail University campus! So I applied to Full Sail University and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor’s in Film Production! I have worked on a few local Orlando tv news stations (WESH 2 News, The Daily Buzz, News 13) and film projects around Florida, Atlanta and Alabama! My favorite productions that I have worked on so far are TLC (Trading Spaces), Food Network (Food Truck Race), America’s Got Talent (I actually got to be featured on an episode) and Disney’s Magical Christmas Celebration!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I struggled a lot during my time building my career because of the passing of my son’s father and my grandmother, which took me down for a while and it was hard to push myself because of my depression. Although I am still working on it I have found that yoga and meditation has helped!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I call myself a visual artist because I love to do photography, videography, podcasts, and video editing! I can’t do just one thing because I like to learn about different things. I am now focusing on starting my own business Ricki Edits Life Media because I want to help creatives grow and learn even if they don’t have a lot of money! I also started a podcast “Becoming A … Podcast” because I wanted to share my experiences and share stories of other local creatives! I also started a podcast video series on my Youtube channel Ricki Edits Life Media featuring former Disney cast members, singers, rappers, photographers, and many others!

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Last year was tough because I lost my job at The Walt Disney Company because of COVID and that was one of my dream jobs. I believe everything happens for a reason and now I can take what I learned from there and be great somewhere else. Since 2020 was not what I expected it to be, I did actually have time to focus on what I loved and get rid of things that weren’t serving me at that time! I don’t know how long I have on this earth but God gave me this talent for a reason and I want to use my gift to the fullest!
