Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizmar
Hi Lizmar, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Empowering My Community: My Journey as a Woman of Faith and Entrepreneur
I am a woman of faith, a mother, a pastor, and an entrepreneur with a deep passion for helping others. My journey into business started over 10 years ago with tax preparation, but as I worked with my clients, I realized they needed more than just tax services, they needed financial education, credit repair, and support in navigating the immigration system. That realization led me to expand my business.
Today, through Ebenezer Financial & Professional Services LLC (EFPS), (formerly known as Colmena Multiservices). I provide a range of services designed to empower my community. I help individuals and families with their income tax needs, financial education, credit repair, and long-term credit maintenance. One of my main focuses is offering support and guidance with immigration documentation. While I am not a paralegal and cannot provide legal advice, I can assist with completing every form properly and help my Latino community become better prepared within the U.S. legal system.
Balancing business, ministry, and motherhood has been a journey of faith, resilience, and hard work. My mission is to serve, educate, and uplift those in need, ensuring they have the resources and knowledge to move forward with confidence. Whether through finances or legal preparation, I am committed to making a difference, because when one of us rises, we all rise together.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been smooth at all, it has actually been a journey filled with struggles and deep personal loss. While building my business and pursuing my bachelor’s degree in forensic psychology, I have also faced some of the most challenging moments of my life. My goal with my education is to apply what I learn to every aspect of my work, as well as in my personal life, because understanding people and their struggles is essential in the work I do. As a mental health coach, I have learned how important it is to not only serve people but to truly understand them.
In the midst of my journey, I went through a divorce after more than 10 years of marriage, an experience that deeply impacted my life. I lost my grandmother, who was like a mother to me, and shortly after, two of my uncles due to COVID-19 complications. I have also battled type 2 diabetes, anxiety, depression, and obesity, all while trying to keep moving forward for my children, my business, and my calling.
But perhaps the greatest heartbreak of all was the recent loss of my beloved granddaughter, Mia. She was only seven years old when her life was tragically cut short due to negligence by her godfather in Philadelphia on November 3rd. This pain is something I carry with me every day.
Despite everything, my faith has kept me standing. My love for God, my children, my family, and my community pushes me forward. I know I am not the only one who has experienced deep loss, and that is why I continue to serve. First and foremost, I want to honor God and fulfill my purpose, but I also want to be here for those who are hurting, those who need hope and love, just as I have needed it so many times before. And through it all, I know that God has never left my side.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
First and foremost, I am a worshiper. I don’t just see it as a talent, it’s a gift from God, and my only purpose in using it is to glorify Him. When I worship, my goal is to connect deeply with God while also allowing others to witness and be part of that sacred moment. Every song I sing is an act of worship, and I strive to make it authentic, raw, and Spirit-led.
What sets me apart from other worshipers is that I don’t rely heavily on rehearsals or structured performances. I let the Holy Spirit lead, whether I’m singing live or recording in a studio, I surrender to whatever God wants to do in that moment. Worship, for me, is deeply personal, and I believe that this genuine approach is what resonates with those who hear me.
I am also known for my diverse musical style within gospel music. While gospel is the only genre I pursue, I love incorporating different rhythms and blending older worship songs with fresh, modern sounds. This allows me to bridge generations, bringing new life to the songs that once blessed us while making them accessible and relevant for today’s younger audience.
Above all, I am proud that every note I sing is for God and that my worship can be a vessel to bring others closer to Him. This applies to everything I do including business. I strive to provide the best service and service every need my clients have.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Absolutely. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to never take life or health for granted. After recovering from COVID-19, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea, both of which were triggered by the complications and high fevers I endured during my illness. That experience made me realize how fragile life can be and how important it is to take care of our health, especially when we are blessed with it.
Beyond that, COVID-19 reminded me to appreciate life more deeply and to be mindful that we are all here for a reason, with a purpose. No matter the hardships, one truth remains: God is always good.
