Meet Haille Coakley of Graphics by HB

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haille Coakley

Hi Haille, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Graphics by HB began like many new businesses, during the 2020 pandemic. With the sudden availability of idle time, I found myself reflecting on my interests, and it was during this period that I decided to pursue graphic design. The business initially focused on creating YouTube intros and outros, logos, and flyers. However, everything changed after the passing of my grandfather in November 2022.

When my grandfather passed away, my family needed a funeral program designed. After shopping around for a designer, we found that the cost for creating around 200 funeral programs was nearly $800. Given my experience in graphic design, I decided to take on the task myself. I created the program, and my family was impressed with the result, especially considering I was still a novice in the field. It was a meaningful and personal project that allowed me to craft a lasting memory of my grandfather while saving my family money.

This experience led me to focus my business on designing funeral programs. In 2023, I began promoting my services by distributing business cards to funeral homes in the Orlando area, along with a sample of my grandfather’s program. Since then, my business has grown and continues to help families during one of the most difficult times in their lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part, it has been a smooth journey. However, there were a few challenges along the way. One of the most memorable moments came when I accepted a client’s request while I was nine months pregnant. I was still early and had about three weeks left until my due date, but my son decided to make an early arrival. Despite being in labor, I knew I couldn’t leave the funeral program unfinished. I treat each program as if it were for my own loved one, and with that mindset, I made sure to complete it, even while in labor. It was a challenging experience, but it also highlighted just how dedicated I am to my work and the families I serve.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business started as something fun to explore during the pandemic, but it quickly turned into something I truly love and enjoy. At first, I never imagined how much I would grow attached to the work, but now I find great purpose in what I do. Creating funeral programs may seem morbid to some, but if you shift your perspective just slightly, you’ll realize that these programs hold the last memories of a loved one. They mark their time in history, cementing their legacy for future generations. I find great joy in helping families create something that will be passed down and cherished for years to come.

What sets my business apart is the emphasis I place on personalization. No two of my programs are the same—there are no templates here. Each program is unique. Every detail matters to me, and I don’t consider any work finished unless it’s something I would proudly present to my own family. This is both my strength and my weakness, as I often find myself spending extra time perfecting every detail to ensure it’s just right.

I’m most proud of the experience I provide for families and the opportunity to take some of the weight off their shoulders during a difficult time. Many of my clients come to me via referrals, and that’s incredibly meaningful. Knowing that people were so satisfied with their experience that they felt compelled to recommend me is one of the greatest compliments I could receive.

I want your readers to know that I am here to help create something beautiful and meaningful for families who want to preserve the memory of their loved one with a high-quality tribute—without the burden of high costs. My prices are fair and affordable, ensuring that every family can have a lasting memento. I offer a variety of services, including bi-folds, tri-folds, booklets, and prayer cards, all designed with the utmost care and attention to detail.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe a few key qualities have been essential to my success: excellent customer service and empathy. In this line of work, it’s crucial to provide outstanding service because you’re working with people who are often in a vulnerable state, having just lost a loved one. Some of these losses are particularly traumatic, so word choice and being sensitive to their needs are important.

Many families also face the added burden of not having insurance to cover funeral costs, which can make the situation even more stressful. They’re already grieving, and the financial strain can feel overwhelming. Having empathy allows me to help families navigate this difficult time, understanding that everyone’s financial situation is different. I firmly believe that regardless of financial circumstances, every family deserves a meaningful farewell.
