Today we’d like to introduce you to Karrigan Taylor
Hi Karrigan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in a small town in Massachusetts. I was always a little weird, and different from the other kids. I had some friends, but I was bullied really badly throughout my early years in elementary school. I had a deep love for pop culture in a place that was consumed by nature and organic nonsense. My teachers even told my parents to discourage me from living a pop-culture-themed life and were genuinely concerned about my wellbeing just because I didn’t fit the mold.
I was a goth teenager, obsessed with the macabre and all things dark. I never really fit in because of it. People thought I was strange, but I found comfort in characters, stories, and aesthetics that made me feel seen, even if no one around me understood it.
When I was 18, freshly out of high school, I moved to Orlando and it was the best decision of my life. I met so many like-minded people here who shared my passions and made me feel at home for the first time. I ended up getting my degree in Creative Writing for Entertainment from Full Sail University, which really helped me take all the stories I had in my head and turn them into something real.
Now, that same love for pop culture and dark, spooky things is what my entire career is built on. I’m someone who’s always creating whether it’s cosplay, boudoir content, writing manga, designing my own fashion line, or starting my rock band. I don’t like to stay on just one project because there’s too much I want to explore. I want to make something unforgettable in pop culture—something that inspires the weirdos like me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes and no. It’s been both easy and hard in different ways. I started cosplaying when I was still in high school, back when it wasn’t as widely accepted and people definitely didn’t get it. I’ve dealt with a lot over the years: body shaming, online hate, people underestimating me, and the constant pressure of putting myself out there.
Balancing college while running a full-time social media business was a challenge. I was managing content, brand deals, school deadlines it was exhausting at times, but I was determined. It’s not always glamorous behind the scenes.
That said, I also feel really lucky. In many ways, things have flowed naturally because I’ve stayed true to myself and I genuinely love what I do. I work a lot, constantly juggling projects and ideas, but I wouldn’t trade it. The struggles taught me resilience, and the wins feel even more meaningful because of it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I wear a lot of hats haha. I’m a professional cosplayer, model, businesswoman, manga writer, fashion designer, and most recently, the lead singer of my rock band, Possessia. Everything I do is rooted in creativity and self-expression. I specialize in creating immersive, character-driven content, whether that’s through cosplay, storytelling, or fashion. I love taking inspiration from pop culture, dark aesthetics, and emotional themes, and turning that into something visual, something wearable, or something you can feel.
I think what sets me apart is how many different worlds I’m part of and how I bring them all together. I don’t limit myself to one lane. One day I’m writing manga, the next I’m designing outfits inspired by japanese fashion I saw while doing cosplay in Japan, and the next I’m performing onstage with my band. There’s always something new in the works.
I’m most proud of how I’ve been able to build a life and career around the very things people used to make fun of me for. Everything I do now is built on that same weird, spooky, passionate little girl who just wanted to create. That’s my biggest flex I think, turning what made me “different” into what makes me successful.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Honestly, the most helpful thing for me has been making meaningful connections in real life with people who are where I want to be. Surrounding myself with creatives I admire, asking questions, learning from them, and staying humble it’s been more valuable than any book or class. There’s so much power in community!
That said… my photo and video editing apps definitely help too! Facetune, ahem, I’m looking at you.
