Today we’d like to introduce you to Mina Devane.
Hi Mina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was introduced to the Tattoo Industry since I was born, thanks to my father. I taught myself how to draw, and have taken harsh critique since I could hold a pencil. When I was 20 I finally went through my apprenticeship, which took almost 4 years. After 10 years of tattooing, I set up a private studio to focus on family and freedom- adding a space that is a safe environment for everyone with hospitality as a priority.
I’ve only been open for almost a year, but the growth is there and a little home has been made. We’re looking towards bigger and better plans, and hope others join us for the ride.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every journey has struggles, but mine came from perseverance and keeping my wits about me. I used to doubt myself heavily, and this has been a very confidence building experience. I learned to trust myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a tattoo artist!
I do a lot of digital work as well as painting, and everything I tattoo is drawn by my own hand. Custom tattoos can carry more meaning to the client and give more individuality, and you can see the excitement from design to finished piece.
Comfort means a lot to me during the tattoo process as well- I get custom furniture made for that reason. Extra padding, pillows of different firmness, free snacks and drinks and any and all toiletries that would be needed for longer sessions. I want everyone to treat this shop as a home and a hangout.
Any big plans?
What I’m hoping is that we may expand to hire more individual artists with special styles and a love for the arts, to offer a relaxed and comfortable work environment for themselves and their people. I don’t necessarily want to be an employer or a boss, but someone who encourages Tattooers to feel safe to express their whimsy and their strengths.
This may be a pipe dream, but I also hope to be able to sell dolls and other homemade goods later down the line.
