Check Out Jastin Artis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jastin Artis.

Hi Jastin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was finally hooked to play music once I heard “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin in high school by my high school best friend Jerad. I had always been a fan of Hip-Hop, band geek since elementary school, and recording radio shows growing up. But after hearing Led Zeppelin, I had to learn how to play guitar. So, at the start of college my uncle Joe bought me a guitar and I taught myself how to play. Since then, I’ve cultivated a sound I call Hip-Hop Renaissance. I fuse Hip-Hop, Gospel, Acoustic/Electric guitar, and Spoken-word. It was many long days working the day job or school, or both, then coming home and crafting. Over these 17 years or so, I’ve been focused on the passion and purpose of what I’m meant to do within music and outside of it. It’s brought me so far as a man and creative.

Jastin Artis is an Alexandria, VA-based artist and producer whose music fuses gospel, acoustic and electric guitars and spoken word to forge a new lane in Hip-Hop. He’s the bridge between genres that music fans didn’t know they were looking for, but once you hear his unique sound and style, it’s impossible to turn away. It’s Hip-Hop Renaissance. Jastin’s mission is to help elevate his listeners by providing a safe and comfortable place where fans can rest their fears, scars, pain, and love.

Jastin’s latest album, Love in Darkness I, which is his ninth self-produced full-length project, was released this past May. Already having over 79,000+ streams across all streaming platforms, the album has connected with audiences in a way that only a seasoned artist like Jastin can accomplish.

Additionally, he’s stepped into sync licensing as a Top 10 Producer on stock media platform Storyblocks with over 5kusers in 125 countries using his original content for their projects.

There is much more to come from Jastin as he continues to evolve, collaborate, and extend to the next level in his career. Make sure to keep up with Jastin to experience his next album, Love in Darkness II, which is due out early in 2022.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth and I don’t think I would want it to. I’ve experienced the usual struggles of being creative in figuring out what works with the music and building your fanbase. Then once you do figure some of that out you balance working the day gig and pursuing your music. Then when you figure that out, it’s still the same thing but how do you optimize monetization on your music? Now as a full-time artist and entrepreneur each project brings the same challenges as you don’t know what the fans will enjoy. Or how you decide to market will work. But it is the most fun, intriguing, and challenging thing to figure out. Lastly, another big challenge is balancing family and the time to craft. It is definitely a balance but worth it to have your family involved and supporting the hours you must put in to get to the next level.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve spent years cultivating my own sound. I knew early on I didn’t fit into the trend of Hip-Hop. Additionally, I knew it wouldn’t come easy or fast and never wanted it to. Instead of trying to do what the cool kids were doing, I decided to stay true to what I knew and what I did best. Thus, birthed my genre of Hip-Hop Renaissance.

I merge Hip-Hop, Gospel, acoustic/electric guitars, and spoken-word to provide a very raw, vulnerable, and openness on my music that I believe is unmatched. I’ve spent my 10k+ hours to be where I am today in writing, production, engineering, and developing talent yet oftentimes I feel I know nothing.

I hope I’m recognized overall for the heart to listen, support, and assert myself to doing what I feel is best either for myself or those I love.

In an industry that’s always changing and desire for instant validation, I’ve stayed the course; kept my morals; developed to the artist I want to be for the purpose, not numbers; and will remain true to that as best I can no matter the success.

I’m proud I haven’t quit. Oh yes, I’ve had quit feelings but man the joy of working with people across the world or gradually seeing streams reaching nearly 100k or people finally seeing who I am is actually who I am. No faker here man lol I truly am very happy about that. Oh, and the greatest musical achievement being a part of a certified gold project as an engineer and the only feature.

Finally, I believe my genuine spirit of who I am and what I’m about is translating more with people. I don’t know if it’s the time of the world, but I’ve only gotten better at who I am and what I want. Whatever it is, I’m humbled to the relationships I’ve built and currently building. Cause all I want to do is get a crowd who knows my words when I’m on stage and help artists reach their goals in music using all my skills in music and A&R. Simple, right? Lol, Well there’s more but that’s the simplicity of it.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Don’t do it for the wrong reasons. Any reason outside yourself isn’t usually worth it. Be in it for you and your reasons only. Don’t do it for money or to be an overnight success. Again, this typically doesn’t result in much. Commit for the long hall; commit to evolving. I bet in due time you’ll be surprised. And as cliche as it is, believe in yourself no matter who’s in the audience, buying your project, or showing you the love. Show the love you want to receive; genuinely. Be open to learn no matter what level of success you reach. I could go on for days of advice but I’ll end with work hard but make time for yourself. Defend your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual self at all times.
