Today we’d like to introduce you to Peyton Moffitt.
Hi Peyton, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Where to start? I guess it would be back when I was little. I use to tell everyone I wanted to have my own business. I was always asking questions like “Does the ice cream man own his truck or does he work for someone else?”. I always got the “She’s a leader” feedback on my report cards from school or when I wanted my first phone, I made an entire presentation on why I was ready and how it would BENEFIT my mom.
Needless to say, I have always been a hustler and wanted to be a leader. Fast forward to when I got older, I worked from the time I was 11 doing random jobs for neighbors like cleaning their house, babysitting, yard work, etc. so I could start saving. When I got to high school and got my first real job and worked toward my college scholarships, that’s when my wheels started turning. I was able to get enough scholarships so I could attend the University of Central Florida and get a degree in Marketing and Sales. It was at my time at UCF that shaped my vision for my future. I had always known I wanted to have my own business but never knew what my passion was. Having grown up in the Real Estate Industry, I knew I liked it but wasn’t sure if it was because my family had done it or if I enjoyed it.
The best way to find out was to do it. I got my Real Estate License the summer before my Senior year and jumped in. It didn’t take long for me to realize this was my passion and what I wanted to do. I spent my last year at UCF in the Professional Selling Program where I was able to learn a lot about myself and how to navigate the industry. During my time in the program, I also became a Certified Sales Student with the University of Sales Center Alliance. By the time I graduated, I had a lot of experience under my belt and felt ready to tackle the world.
I hit the ground running and partnered with my mom, Carmen Henderson, who is also a wonderful agent and we have been quite the match. Her bringing to the table 4 decades of experience and me bringing my Bachelor’s degree and knowledge of the changing technology, we’ve been able to maximize how many families we can help achieve the “American Dream”. Running our Real Estate Business has been so rewarding but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t come with its challenges. However, going through all the ups and downs and sharing my story with others has taught me so much.
I was recognized by Coldwell Banker Realty as “Rookie of the Year” for 2022 this was quite the honor and I feel so blessed to be able to share my success with others. I feel like every day, I am always learning new ways to improve my business and how I can help others. I think we stop progressing when we stop learning, so I make it a mission of mine to always ask questions and improve. I believe this is how I have become successful and ended up where I am today. I’m not afraid to branch out and test the limits of my business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. I can say with 100% certainty, it is nothing like Selling Sunset or any of the other TV shows. Getting started has been an uphill battle but one that I wouldn’t change. Last I checked, the stats said 81% of Realtors will fail. This number will scare most, however, for me, It made me want to prove I could succeed. I faced lots of rejection from many people and had to learn how to show people that I cared about helping. This was the easy part because I do care and that is what drives me and how I was able to get past the rejection.
I struggled a lot with my age though, since I was only 20 when I got my license, not many people trusted that I was qualified to do the job even if they had never spoken to me. That was my biggest challenge but I spent a lot of my time educating myself.
I interviewed experienced agents, studied the market, took training classes, and did anything else I could so that once I got in front of someone I was confident that I could answer anything thing they threw my way. I knew that if I could get someone to get past my age and see how much I knew or how dedicated I was to finding it out, they would see that I truly wanted to help and was able to do my job and do it well.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in Residential Real Estate and I help buyers and sellers all around Central Florida. As many people know 3 or 4 agents, I spent a lot of time finding out what I had to offer and why I was different. I have spent my time making my business cater to making this process of buying or selling a home as easy and stress-free as I can. I also am always involved in the community and finding out what is going on, what laws are changing, or anything that might affect a sale. What sets me apart is my team and our combined skill set.
Carmen’s 40 years of experience and my background in marketing/business and my proficient skills with technology, this has allowed us to capitalize on any and every opportunity. Our combined efforts give us the ability to explore many avenues to get our buyers and sellers to close even on our hardest deals. We have an excellent success rate and rarely come across a situation that we can’t get closed. I’m proud to be a part of the number 1 real estate company in Central Florida. Being with Coldwell Banker has opened up so many opportunities for me and my customers. It has allowed me to expand my marketing plan, not just through the nation but globally allowing sellers to maximize how many potential buyers are viewing their properties.
I’ve been able to learn about many programs that have opened up a wide variety of options to my buyers who might not have qualified before. This is the biggest thing with my business and what I have to offer, I won’t settle, and neither should you especially when you’re dealing with the biggest investment in your life. I make sure that I have the best resources and am providing each customer with the best service. I will not take no for an answer, if someone says we can’t make something work, I will spend my time exhausting every avenue to find a solution to get that buyer into their dream home or to get that seller the best possible offer.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I see myself as a risk-taker. I jumped into a field that was 100% commission-based right out of college. Not everyone likes to admit this side of things but there were many sleepless nights after making this leap knowing I was in a sink-or-swim situation. However, I knew that my passion for real estate combined with my motivation and persistence would allow me to swim and I did just that.
In the midst of all of this, I was able to purchase my first home at the age of 21. I knew this was a risky move but I was able to benefit from this by putting myself in the shoes of first-time home buyers, as this is a common clientele of mine. I think you need a healthy balance of risk in your life to push yourself and allow growth but know your limits and don’t bite off more than you can chew.
