Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Rendon.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Krendon is a rock and roll band from Orlando, FL. The band was founded in 2014. and it consists of Carlos Rendon on lead vocals and guitar, Jimmy Alban on bass, and Israel Cappelletti on drums/percussion. Jimmy and I have been long-time friends and played together in different bands since high school. In 2014, I finally decided to dedicate my passion and energy for music to a new project—Krendon. Influenced by Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, and rock bands from South America, I asked Jimmy to join this new project as we both had similar music influences.
Sometime after, Israel, a very good friend of mine from out of state moved back into the area, and the two of us started to spend time together with mutual friends. Israel and I had played music before, but nothing serious. I had always liked Israel’s drumming style as well as his natural ability to play any tempo and rhythm. I finally decided to ask Israel to join the band, and he agreed. That day he became an official member of the band, and the band acquired a high-energy sound. Krendon released its first five-song EP “Take Control” on October 22nd, 2018. Feeding off of each other’s energy, the band started booking more live shows with different local bands. Their EP release tour took them from Orlando to St. Petersburg, FL, and to Miami. A few months after the release and after many shows played for our local audience as well as sharing many great moments with other bands, we realized our sound had evolved into a heavier high energy sound. We loved it and decided to record it. It was then that went back into the studio and record some of our new music. Our second EP “Tomorrow is Today” would be released on April 20, 2021.
All this work has been fueled by the energy we get from our music community. The great bands we get to share the stage with as well as the audience that supports what we love are evidence that music has no boundaries, and it’s the reason we keep on exploring new sounds. These sounds reflect our most profound and sincere versions of ourselves, and it is a privilege to share them with those around us. We love being part of the Orlando music scene. We feel proud of being part of its voice to the world. A voice that shows that Orlando has so much to offer. A close-knit community that keeps growing every day and that does not leave anyone behind. We all have some noise to make. We all have a story to tell. There will be more music to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been an easy ride for us. There have been great moments that have been ingrained in our memories and will cherish forever. The pandemic almost broke the kneecaps of the local entertainment in the country. It affected most musicians worldwide, and we obviously were not the exception. Due to the pandemic, we actually had to pause this project for almost two years. Everything was going so well. Then, it all came to a sudden stop. There were suddenly no more late nights playing at venues. The nervousness and excitement when preparing for a show disappeared. Suddenly everything was silent. We continued to practice and shifted our focus to creating new music. The uncertainty that the future presented for us made us feel insecure and nervous. Nevertheless, music gave us the energy to push on. After the restrictions were lifted we were super happy to be back out there playing for everyone. It feels like starting over. Some bands no longer exist, or some venues no longer host live music shows. However, music always finds its way, and the local community is starting to heal from the pandemic, and it’s getting stronger with every local show.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a DevOps engineer during business hours. I specialize in creating and maintaining the infrastructure for a health organization here in the South-Eastern area of the United States. Computer Science is my second passion, and I approach it with the same level of energy and enthusiasm as I approach music. That is probably what I am known for. Always want to jump on the next project and get my hands dirty. I am proud to say that I work with a team that lets me explore different technologies which in turn allows me to help the community. Patients that benefit from the work we do. All we do is always with them in mind. I am very proud of the impact we have on our patients.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Being a bit of an introvert makes it a bit difficult to talk to other people. But I always try to put myself out of my comfort zone to make new relationships and offer my help whenever and wherever I can. If I am lacking confidence in one area, I always try to find the person that knows the most about that particular area and ask questions, show interest and apply the knowledge. For me, it’s all about growing and helping along the way.
