Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Peña.
Hi Stephanie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always had a love for photography, which started at a young age. I had a camera in my hand constantly and loved printing photos and putting them in frames around my room and home. I’ve kept photography boxes with tons of photos in them since I was young and have had so many different cameras throughout the years. Photography is truly my passion as I love capturing special moments paused in time for others as I have captured of my life for so many years.
Photography lets me be my creative self and I truly just love everything about it, so I decided in 2016 to make it my career as I shifted out of Corporate America. I was at a crossroads in my life working at what I thought was my dream job that I obtained prior to even graduating college, which is what so many students dream of is to have your career set. I loved what I was doing but the stress and environment I was currently in wasn’t bringing me the joy I once had. I decided to take the risk of opening my own company and I’m so glad I did. It has been everything and more for me and one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I was happy again, I was me again and getting to be creative, which is where I thrive, was seriously the best feeling ever. I was helping capture such amazing memories for my friends, family and new friends/families I met and it’s been such an amazing ride. When I’m not behind the frame I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter, family & friends, traveling, cooking and crafting.
I am almost in my 5th year of my company and I have grown so much since I first started. It’s fun to look back at where I started and look forward to where I want to be. I’m constantly working on new ideas for my company and continuing to challenge myself on the daily as I need to be challenged to thrive. I’m such a planner and rarely do I take risks and I’m so incredibly happy and proud of myself that I took the risk in 2016 to open my own company because it sure was scary, but it surely has been so incredibly great.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all, but that’s ok because I wouldn’t have learned so much along the way as I have. Since I was leaving Corporate America to start my own company and be an entrepreneur, it was extremely scary as I don’t normally take risks like this. I struggled with going from a steady paycheck to getting paychecks here and there, which I had to learn to balance. I also struggled with working from home since I never had before- you know, the normal distractions.
In the beginning, I had to build my portfolio, so I offered my family and friends free photoshoots because I needed to show my work or else I wouldn’t ever get hired, so I took a lot of loss right in the beginning of my business- but boy did it pay off and I’m so incredibly grateful for all the amazing clients I’ve had thus far for the opportunity. These struggles have helped shape me and my company to what it is today and I’m grateful for each struggle/experience along the way. I get to truly have the work-life balance I so wanted as my husband and I have started our family, so it’s been nice to truly do what I love in life: Photography and be a Mom.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional photographer that specializes in mostly Family and children portraits, maternity, newborn sessions and more.
I am most proud of my work and where I have come from when I first started to where I am now. I’ve always strived for greatness my entire life, and I take so much pride in my work to be the best for my clients and produce amazing photos for them. Growing up I watched my single mom struggle for years and I knew I never wanted to be in that situation, so I’ve always worked 1-3 jobs at the same time and have always taken so much pride in my work. My mom was amazing and so strong at juggling her career with two small kids and I truly think that’s why I work so hard to this day as I’ve had such a great role model to look up to. I really could not have done it without the support of my husband who told me to go for it and quit my Corporate America job, as well as my family and friends that have helped me build my portfolio and career over the years in addition to all the amazing clients I have met along the way to keep my business going.
What sets me apart from others is my fun and smiley personality, the attention to detail I have for everything I do and my drive for greatness in my work.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love doing collaborations such as styled shoots where other companies come together to create different aspects of a photoshoot to help everyone involved promote each one’s business to show what we all can do.
One can support my small business by liking or following my social media pages (Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest) or by booking a photoshoot for themselves or others.
