Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Kearney.
Hi Jessica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey started when I was very young actually, I got into music heavily as a child. I was constantly drawn to music I did choir throughout grade school. At 13 is really when I started to create my own music. I started teaching myself the piano but I was learning the saxophone in grade school as well. After high school, I decided to take music seriously and Pursue an audio engineering degree from Full Saul university. Throughout my time there, I worked on various games and produced several songs for different artists. I also started two companies that I still run today. I graduated from Full Sail University in March of 2020. While the world was shut down, I was offered an opportunity to compose for a documentary entitled “Alliances Broken.” I also made jingles and intro music for commercials and podcasts. I also released music of my own and worked on music videos. I pride myself in my ambitious approach to still pursue my dreams and build even in the hardest of times still pressing forward and getting things done despite the odds. This is still only the beginning for me and there is still so much more that I have ahead of me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When you are going for a dream that not everyone can see the same vision for there are always challenges. Some may be personal and others more on the business side. For me, I struggled a lot with keeping my emotional world together especially during the pandemic even with still pushing forward, there were still times of feeling stuck and lost. I feel like anyone who reaches for their desires despite the societal normalcy of a typical career can struggle with such things as anxiety and depression. It’s always great to have a strong support system but not everyone does. I took the road that’s more difficult and less defined it’s abstract. It’s unclear how to really pave your way in an industry like this since there are so many ways you can take it. It is also not for the weak you have to be okay with failure and hearing no.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an audio engineer, a composer, and music producer. I have worked with various artists, producers and songwriters. Some of which are Danae Green, Mai Buddy, Melvin Duren, Loni Ro and Morgan Davis. I would say I specialize in Audio Engineering. I have been mixing live shows, music and movies for the past few years. I am most proud of how much I’ve accomplished in the short time that I’ve been out of school. What really sets me apart from others is how much I genuinely not only push myself but my fellow peers around me to keep going even in rough times. I don’t just want myself to succeed but I want to see everyone get to their goals. I also love to just learn to dive deep into knowledge of this career field to constantly grow. I constantly seek out self-improvement everyday.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
There are many mentors a person can have. I came across many of mine through school. When I first started school, I talked with a lot of my professors and peers. I think it’s important to network with everyone because you never know what you can learn from them. The best advice I can give is to look for someone you admire and that is doing the things that you aspire to do.
