We’re looking forward to introducing you to madison rodriguez. Check out our conversation below.
Hi madison, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes, I recently received an email from a makeup brand I’d been dying to work with for over 5 years. I had reached out to them plenty of times over the years, and finally this week they reached out to me to do a gifted brand partnership. I was shocked and ecstatic and I finally felt SEEN. I was feeling proud of how far I’ve come!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Madison Rodriguez, I have a small business called Madstalgia, where I share my love of the early 2000s by creating items out of classic y2k staples like harry potter, mcdonald’s toys, vintage tees, and more! I am also a content creator on tiktok (misfitgurl) & instagram (madrodriguezz) who makes content surrounding my love of disney, fashion, and beauty!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That I wouldn’t change … I have always been confident in who i am, so much so that I didn’t anticipate needing to change in order to grow. I always felt dignified in my decisions, but there’s always room to grow and especially if you move around and go off to college like I did, you’re bound to change in ways you may not even expect. But I am so grateful for my growth and I think I’m a better person because of it.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I think the suffering that I have endured on my path has taught me that it is okay to do things on your own, even if you feel lonely or unsure of yourself. Just be confident in your abilities, your work ethic, etc and it’s probably the best thing you can do is pursue something on your own because then you only have to rely on yourself.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
I was having a chat with my boyfriend about this the other day. I told him that you can be confident and humble, they’re not mutually exclusive. He agreed, then proceeded to share that “being humble is overrated.” And I was shocked, while completely agreeing. Society wants you to be humble, they rarely want you to be confident. They would rather people act shy or cowardly, than speak up and stand out. I noticed that many villains are depicted “over confidently” lacking a humble attitude, but those are the people who end up making something of themselves and having large platforms. I think of Sharpay Evan’s, people look back and go “she was a bad bitch” and she was, good for her. We don’t want to applaud any mean spirited things that a person does, but their confidence should be applauded, not always seen as arrogance. Cause Sharpay could post up in a Broadway performance, okay?
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that people would speak about my kindness. And perhaps my creativity. But I think the love I give people is powerful. I love my friends deeply and would move mountains for them. I try to be kind to everyone I meet, because you never know what people are going through behind the scenes. The reason I bring up creativity is because people usually bring that up to me, and I’m flattered. It is one of my favorite traits, being able to creative things out of nowhere. So yeah, if I were remembered for any one of those things, that would make me proud.
