An Inspired Chat with Naomi Jemison of Orlando

Naomi Jemison shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Naomi, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I always feel closest to myself when I am working on personal photography projects. Doing this for my job, sometimes I forget how much I love photography as an art medium. When I lose my way; I always find myself getting back to creating something just for myself and it sets my soul back on fire! For example, I like to dabble in underwater photography. I personally don’t think I am all that good at it. I don’t offer it as a service to my clients, so when I am photographing underwater, I just get to play.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Naomi Jemison, the face (and camera) behind Naomi Jemison Photography. I’m a wedding and portrait photographer based in Orlando, Florida, but I’m always down to travel for love, light, and a good story. I specialize in capturing weddings, elopements, and portraits that feel honest, fun, and slightly nostalgic. I’ve been doing this for nearly a decade, and I’m still in awe that I get to call this my job.

My approach is rooted in realism & connection. I want my clients to feel completely comfortable in front of the camera, even if they usually hate having their photo taken. I want to create photos that they can recognize themselves in, and that feel true and beautiful to their story.

Inclusivity is a huge part of my brand. Love is love, and every story deserves to be celebrated with intention and care. I am honored to photograph couples and individuals from all backgrounds, orientations, and identities. Everyone is welcome here.

As for what I have been working on, it is currently my off-season, so I’ve been knee-deep in all of the back end business things that I have avoided for as long as humanly possible. I recently launched my new website which is pretty neat. Other than that, I try to spend the slow summer months getting creative and working on some passion projects!

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think pride and a lack of accountability can be some of the biggest bond-breakers. No one is perfect—we all mess up sometimes—but refusing to acknowledge when you’ve hurt someone can create a distance that’s hard to come back from. On the flip side, humility is incredibly powerful. A genuine apology, one that comes without excuses, can go a long way in restoring trust. Owning your mistakes doesn’t make you weak, it shows you care enough about the relationship to make it right.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self, “You came into this world already worthy. From your very first breath, you were enough—always have been, always will be.”

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Love is love. The world already has enough division, and I believe we should be protecting and growing the love we have—not tearing it down. We should always be looking for ways to build more of it, in all its forms.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I truly believe I’m doing what I was born to do. Growing up, I was naturally gifted at math—it just clicked for me when it didn’t for most of my peers. My parents encouraged me to pursue something practical, like accounting or another high-paying math-driven career. Needless to say, they weren’t thrilled when I announced I was going to art school. But I knew my soul was pulled toward photography, and I’ve never looked back. I love every part of it—the art, the people, even the business!
