Check Out Avednorcue’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Avednorcue.

Hi Avednorcue, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have dreamed of becoming a DJ since teenage years. However, I never had time and brevity to actually take a step out of my comfort zone and learn. At the age of 18, in August 2018 I moved from Saint-Petersburg, Russia to Orlando for obtaining my bachelor’s degree. Surprisingly, college didn’t take as much time as school in Russia did, so I could combine my studies with something that I love. That’s when the time for DJing came.

When I went back to Russia, I went to a DJ school to learn basic mixing. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much time in Russia since my college classes were about to start. So, I had to learn other DJing techniques and tricks by myself. I have been playing in my bedroom and for my friends but I couldn’t go beyond that. Sometimes I’ve mismatched, sometimes the melodies didn’t go together, there was a time when the music simply stopped. This experience of figuring stuff out through your mistakes makes it much more valuable because you never forget when, why, and how you’ve failed. There comes your reward – you don’t have to memorize what your teacher or mentor said, you know it yourself. I was lucky enough to be noticed by different event groups that have invited me to play at different places like Infyniti Knight Club, Elixir in downtown Orlando and A Sound Garden at Henao Contemporary Center. I have even been able to play at Ocala National forest at a Secret Campout party. All thanks to social media.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, not. First, I couldn’t find an electronic music scene. Because of age restriction, I couldn’t get into some venues, even to simply listen to some music. Second, I have never got a response when trying to communicate to a venue directly. Once you are performing from an event group name, that’s when you can actually get to play at a venue. Unless you’re super famous, of course. Third, because, for a big part, I was figuring how to DJ by myself, I made mixing and beatmatching mistakes.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Currently, I am an electronic music DJ. I play various genres: house, nu disco, deep house, afro house, liquid drum n base, melodic techno, jackin’ house, peak techno, electro, organic house, and if I like it, much more. I try not to focus on genres only because music is so much more than that. If I like the melody, the beats, the energy of a track, I’ll add it to one of my playlists, no matter what genre it is. I create my DJ sets that way so I am able to tell a story to my listeners. So they can travel in time with me through music. Of course, a set will depend on genre choice. If you want techno for next track and the one that currently is playing is, let’s say, nu disco, that might be a too sharp turn. So, I build my playlists in a way that makes sense and leads the listeners through time smoothly. In addition, I think my focus in choosing tracks relies heavily on melodies. If a melody gives you goosebumps, that’s the right one. There is a DJ set called “Disco Jutsu” that has been really successful. This is definitely a set I am most proud of not only because it is my most popular set but also because I feel like I was able to create that cozy, sunny atmosphere and to send a message to people from around the world and make them travel.
