Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Connelly.
Hi Brandon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up around photography as a kid since my dad was into it from a hobby standpoint. He mainly did aviation and nature photography since we lived in Denver, CO. I got my first camera at a young age and just developed from there. I really didn’t get passionate about it until high school, when I took photography classes where I learned some of the creative film aspects and darkroom development process. It was about 2010 when I started just attending local car shows and taking photos and chatting with the owners. From there, I was able to start gaining the attention of them and being told I had “the eye” for what I was doing. Fast forward to now, I have covered things like PGA Tour, Orlando City Soccer, US Soccer, UCF Football, Daytona Speedweeks (Rolex 24, Daytona 500) and have a decent automotive client base. Back in June, one of my automotive shoots was also put on the cover of DSport Magazine w/an 8-page feature inside.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a rough road due to being freelance. There’s never a smooth or steady flow of work, lots of attending as many car events as possible to network with owners and such. I’ve also never really had the opportunity to take it to the next level and attempt it full time as much as I’ve desired.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a freelance photographer that specializes in automotive/motorsports photography. However, I also dabble in sports, aviation, nature and travel photography as well. I am most proud of the cover feature I recently got on DSPORT magazine back in June. What sets me apart in the automotive photography world is my ability to keep my automotive stuff as natural as possible but still clean and appealing to the masses.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Going to airshows with my dad so he could do aviation photography of all the fighter jets we’d see fly.
