Check Out Darksline Policard-Young’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darksline Policard-Young.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey as an entrepreneur started in my adolescence. I used to braid hair out of my mother’s patio to make enough money to buy shoes for sports. Present-day, I am opening my second salon, launching a hair care line, and have acquired 200 thousand supporters on the YouTube platform.

In between then and now, I struggled with the idea of entrepreneurship. It comes very naturally to me. However, culturally it wasn’t an easy decision. As a Caribbean immigrant from Haiti, it’s ingrained in us that higher education is the only key to success. As a result of his, I have obtained higher education, had many careers and continued to explore many careers alongside being an entrepreneur. I have quit and come many times because of this. I am at a place in my journey where I have finally found the balance and starting to expand and grow. I now have a team and looking to grow even more geographically.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I struggled with the idea and fully embracing the journey. This was due to cultural pressures and expectations. Even after graduating college, embarking on new paths and careers, I was always pulled back in. I am thankful for the fact that it’s something that is in my blood. It will never leave me. I just needed to lean into it fully.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I describe myself as a culmination. I have several careers that I worked hard for and I’m proud of. I am most proud of my brand, Dxlynlocs. I’m most known for my YouTube videos and loc content. This brand transcended YouTube and is now a salon. The special thing about our salon is, we specialize in everything dealing with loss and are dedicated to loss and loss only. I have done other hairstyles in the past. Since going through my own loss journey and starting so many others, I grew a strong passion. I brought people on the team who have the same passion. What sets us apart is the elevated service that we are bringing to the industry through and for clients who wear their hair in locks. We pride ourselves on how well we can treat our clients and how much work we put into their hair. Our reward is in the results. The salon is Army veteran led, for that reason we offer military discounts to our service members and veterans.” Right before the sentence the started with “we pride ourselves.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I’ve learned to do what feel and comes naturally and to never get complacent. You can always do more. The same way I would put my best foot forward in my other careers, I make it a point to do the same in entrepreneurship. In this business the clients and supporters are of the upmost importance. I’m very grateful to have clients who are local and those who are willing to travel from all over the USA, Caribbean, and even Europe to Orlando in order to receive our services and show their support.
