Hi Ahri, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Ahri, I’m 28 years old. I was born and raised in Gainesville and love everything about Florida.
I started my Candle company about a year ago in August of 2020. I was working in the ER during the pandemic and had been wanting to start a side hustle but I wanted it to be something that I was passionate about and believed in. As a single mother of a nine and 7-year-old and working full time, I was always busy. One thing that I made sure I did at the end of every day was give myself a little time to relax and I always had candles lit.
They just always bought a sense of peace into my home no matter what kind of day I was having or what was going on. I would light them so much and was spending so much money on them I decided to try and make them myself. After much trial and error and having family members and coworkers test my product, Unmatched Vibes Candle Company was born. The name of my company is very important to me as well. Having Unmatched vibes means there is no one like you and no one creates the presence that you bring except for you. I want my products to instill that into everyone who comes across them, no matter the environment they’re experiencing my candles in.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but a rewarding one. The biggest struggles were deciding what kind of candles I wanted to offer and then testing everything. I went through so much wax, and jars, and wicks until I found what worked for me. But when I did find it, it was the best feeling.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make candles and wax melts in a wide range of scents. All of my candles are made with crackling wooden wicks. This was a really important factor to me because they give the candles that extra something special. The crackle they make when lit is so soothing, like a real campfire. I also use coconut-based waxes for my most of my candles. So my products are all-natural and burn toxin-free. My original wooden candles are made in metal, gold tins. I feel that the gold tin included with the wooden wick gives my candles a luxurious feel. I also have a specialized Hemp collection that has candles made from hemp-infused soy wax. Some of the scents in that collection are Indica Kush and Ganja Flower & Tobacco. I’m most proud of the feedback I get from my supporters. I love hearing how much people enjoy the scents and the unique wicks.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something Surprising people may not know is that I’m currently in nursing school while running my full-time candle business. It has been a huge blessing for me to be able to do something that I love and make a living from it while simultaneously accomplishing other goals. Candle-making is very therapeutic for me, which is a huge help while tackling school. I have not slowed down one bit, though. I want everyone to experience their place of peace with my candles.
