Today we’d like to introduce you to Ajanie Williams.
Hi Ajanie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My creative and entrepreneurial spirit started when I was kid growing up on the island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. My mother was a single parent who worked a lot, so very often we were at my grandmother’s house. There is where I would learn how to be super creative and as a kid I loved to draw, create art, and make music. My grandmother’s home provided everything I needed, iguanas were her backyard, all types of fruit and tropical trees were in her garden. So, I would draw every chance that I could, because her homemade my imagination run wild! Either I was drawing myself as a superhero in a comic, or I was fighting dragons in outer space. As I became a young man, I made up mind I was going to Art school in Florida to pursue my dreams of becoming a cartoonist. While in Art school I became extremely good at making music and putting sound effects behind my cartoons and illustrations. I became so good at creating music that I started to produce and composing for local talents around Central Florida and throughout the Caribbean.
In 2008 while still in Art School, I produced a song for then rising Orlando, Florida-based Dancehall/Reggae artist named Marquest, his single “Lock da City” was the #1 song in Barbados, The Bahamas, and Guadalupe for 4 weeks. This really inspired me to make more music as my local buzz around Central Florida grew. When I graduated Art school in 2009, I was a full-fledged local producer making money from music production, organizing studio sessions, to putting on local shows from Central Florida to South Florida. In 2010 I decided to start a music label named King Dreamz Entertainment.
As my momentum continued to build, I kept collaborating and producing with more Caribbean artists and made hit songs. The hit singles I produced ultimately got the attention of Grammy Award-winning Reggae Artists Bennie Man and Bounty Killer. In 2011 I produced the collaborated Reggae / Dancehall Album titled 45 Riddim with Reggae stars “Bennie Man, Turbulence, veteran acts like Joesy Wales and more”. In 2012 I followed that with another collaborated Reggae / Dancehall Album titled the Body Bag Riddim with International Reggae stars “Sizzla, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Capleton, and much more. By 2013 and 2014 my label mates and I had started to collaborate with industry Hip-Hop artists, Latin Reggaeton artists, and many more musicians. With my fusion of Caribbean sounds, distinctive melodies, and resilient work ethic my musical production became a good force to be reckoned with for a couple years. I now manage and consultation with different artists across multiple genres.
When I established King Dreamz Entertainment in 2010, I wanted to be the new pioneering force in Reggae, Hip Hop, R&B, and Latin Entertainment; from music, concerts, to film and fashion shows. The goal will never change as we stay persistent. Now after all these years of creating and producing music, in 2022 I got back to my Art roots by releasing a kids book that I wrote and illustrated titled ‘Baby Amani’s Caribbean Counting Adventure.” Hopefully, I can create new fans, bring new joy and love for these kids’ book like how my music has done over the years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being an entrepreneur or creative is rarely a smooth journey—it requires real commitment and, often, the ability to self-motivate when no one else will. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been working with individuals who lack motivation or come in with oversized egos. In any collaborative effort, especially in art and music production, everyone needs to be aligned and working toward the same goal. When each person plays their part, the whole team wins.
Unfortunately, I’ve encountered situations where artists or clients weren’t punctual, lacked drive, or didn’t take the process seriously. On the flip side, I’ve also worked with clients who let their status or name overshadow the project itself, making collaboration difficult due to their ego. These kinds of obstacles have taught me a lot about the importance of team dynamics, communication, and choosing the right people to work with.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a music producer, artist manager, and Graphic Designer / illustrator with over 12 + years of professional experience. I specialize in music production, illustration, and graphic design. One of the things I’m most proud of is the network I’ve built over the years—the many talented people I’ve collaborated with, both locally and internationally. Some of my international business partners have become more than just colleagues; we’ve grown together professionally and personally, and I now consider some of them like family. Our conversations go beyond business—we check in on each other’s well-being and families, which adds real depth to our relationships.
What sets me apart is my Caribbean heritage, strong work ethic, and relentless ambition. These values have shaped my approach to both creativity and collaboration.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Mainly my Caribbean heritage, strong work ethic, and relentless ambition. These values have shaped my approach to both creativity and collaboration.
