Check Out Albina Buist’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Albina Buist.

Hi Albina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For years, I chased weight loss in all the wrong ways pills, crash diets, extreme restriction, anything that promised fast results. Like so many others, I was desperate for change, and I paid a physical and emotional price for those choices. Everything shifted when I discovered Ideal Protein. For the first time, I learned how to fuel my body instead of fighting it, and I paired that knowledge with a commitment to movement. Strength training, walking, cycling little by little, working out became part of my identity, not a punishment.

Fourteen years later, I’ve maintained more than 100 pounds of weight loss and built a life around empowering others to transform, too. Nearly a decade of one-on-one coaching has allowed me to witness the real struggles people face the frustration of slow progress, the fear of failing again, the exhaustion of starting over, and the quiet hope that maybe this time will be different.

I know that journey intimately because I’ve lived every step of it. I understand how overwhelming it can feel to change your body, your habits, and your relationship with food. But I also know this: sustainable transformation is possible. Whether someone needs to lose 30 pounds or 230, I understand the science, the mindset, and the day-to-day support required to reach their goals.

My clients who commit, who show up, who trust the process they see results quickly, safely, and more confidently than they ever imagined. Because this isn’t just about weight loss. It’s about rebuilding strength, reclaiming health, and creating a life you feel proud of.

And I’m here to walk that journey with every person willing to take the first step.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all and I think that’s what makes my story relatable. Losing more than 100 pounds is one thing, but keeping it off for 14 years is an entirely different journey. There were moments when old habits tried to pull me back, when stress made food feel like comfort again, and when the scale seemed to move in the wrong direction no matter how hard I worked.

In the beginning, the hardest part was unlearning everything I thought I knew about weight loss. I had to let go of quick fixes, stop chasing shortcuts, and accept that real change required patience and consistency. There were plateaus that tested my confidence, days when I didn’t want to work out, and seasons of life raising kids, moving, working where putting myself first felt impossible.

There were emotional challenges too. Losing weight forces you to confront your relationship with food, with your body, and with your own self-worth. It can be uncomfortable, even overwhelming at times. But every struggle taught me something. Every setback became part of what I now teach my clients.

What kept me going was the decision that my health mattered. I committed to showing up for myself through workouts, better nutrition, and a mindset focused on progress instead of perfection. And now, those struggles are exactly what allow me to coach others with empathy and real understanding. I’ve lived the highs and the lows. I know how heavy the journey can feel, and I also know how freeing it is on the other side.

The road wasn’t smooth, but it was absolutely worth it. And the bumps along the way turned me into the coach I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a weight-loss and wellness coach who specializes in helping people lose weight in a structured, science-based, and truly sustainable way. I work one-on-one with clients through the Ideal Protein protocol, guiding them through nutrition, mindset, habits, and accountability. Over the years, I’ve coached hundreds of individuals men and women of all ages many of whom had tried everything else and felt completely discouraged before they found me.

What I’m most known for is my personal approach. I don’t hand people a plan and send them on their way. I stay connected, I check in, I troubleshoot, I encourage, and I teach them how to navigate real life while losing weight. My clients often tell me they feel genuinely seen and supported, and that is what I’m most proud of.

What truly sets me apart is that I’ve lived the journey myself. I lost more than 100 pounds and have maintained it for 14 years not because it was easy, but because I learned how to change my life from the inside out. I understand emotional eating. I understand the fear of failing again. I understand what it feels like to start over on a Monday for the hundredth time. That empathy allows me to coach in a way that feels personal, not clinical.

I also integrate movement and strength training into my own life and encourage my clients to do the same. I’m passionate about helping people build strong, capable bodies not just smaller ones. Weight loss is the beginning, not the end goal. The real transformation happens when people feel confident, energized, and in control of their health.

What I’m most proud of is watching my clients reclaim their lives. Seeing someone walk into my office with tears in their eyes because they feel defeated and watching that same person months later stand taller, smile bigger, fit into clothes they haven’t worn in years, and believe in themselves again that’s why I do this work. That’s the part you can’t measure on a scale.

Ultimately, my mission is simple: to guide people toward a healthier, stronger, more empowered version of themselves and to show them that change is absolutely possible, no matter where they’re starting from.

How do you define success?
For me, success isn’t defined by a number on a scale, a dress size, or even a before-and-after photo. Success is the moment someone realizes they’re capable of more than they ever believed. It’s when a client walks in and says, “I didn’t give up this week.” It’s when they choose themselves on a hard day, when they begin to trust their own strength, or when they finally feel proud of their reflection for the first time in years.

Personally, I define success as consistency showing up even when motivation fades, honoring your health when life feels chaotic, and keeping the promises you make to yourself. Success is built in small, steady decisions repeated day after day until they become a lifestyle.

In my work, success is watching clients transform from the inside out. It’s not just about losing weight; it’s witnessing someone regain confidence, energy, mobility, and joy. It’s hearing them say, “I feel like myself again,” or sometimes, “I finally feel like the person I always wanted to be.” One of the most meaningful measures of success for me is seeing clients reduce or even completely eliminate certain medications because their bodies have healed to a point where they no longer need them. That’s real, life-changing transformation.

And on a deeper level, success is impact. If someone finishes their journey with me feeling stronger, more capable, more educated, and more hopeful than when they started, then I’ve succeeded. My own journey taught me that success is not perfection it’s progress, empowerment, and creating a life that genuinely feels good to live.
