Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Cruz.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got into makeup about 3 years ago and I decided to start a YouTube channel. I ended up taking a break with that because I had started struggling with getting it to really go anywhere and get my makeup to get the attention that I am getting today. I picked makeup back up again in 2020 and then in December of 2021 was when it started to get more of a reaction. I started to gain followers on my Instagram and TikTok accounts and my YouTube channel is slowly but surely growing as well. My goal is to eventually start doing makeup as my full time job as well as content creating.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road really at all. I started off doing natural/neutral makeup looks and that was not getting the views and love so I decided with the help of a friend to step out of my comfort zone and try bright colored makeup looks. I am still learning to improve but my looks are better and better every time. Some of the struggles I had were getting the engagement and using the right hashtags and gaining followers. Trying to use trending sounds and hashtags has helped immensely and I’m thankful for where I am now. I still struggle with engagement here and there but it’s just about knowing what works best for you and your content.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do makeup and create content. It started off as just wanting to do it for fun and I didn’t think of it as going anywhere. Since December of 2021 until now, March 2022 I have grown so much in creating looks and content and gaining so many followers. I’m most proud of how my looks have gone from what they were back when I first started to now, how much I have improved and jumped out of my comfort zone completely. What sets me apart is that I am just taking it day by day when it comes to growth and engagement. I push out my content and if it does good, then it does good. Slowly getting to where I want, knowing that good things take time.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Liking best about the city is that it’s bigger and there’s so much out there to explore and learn new everyday. Liking Leary about the city would be that I’m still not familiar so I have to use a GPS to not get lost in traffic.
