Check Out Amy Jordon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Jordon.

Amy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My first trip to the Walt Disney World Resort was as an adult. I fell in love with the parks! After a few more trips I was hooked. A friend of mine became a travel agent and told me I should do it too. I love all of the details that go in to making a Disney trip so special – dining, who your favorite characters are, where is the best place to stand to watch a parade and more. Each trip I work on is catered to what’s important to my client and their family. No two trips are exactly alike! I love that the Disney parks have something for everyone to enjoy. Going back, whether I’m with my family or friends, or even by myself, is still so magical for me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Whew! Well, covid certainly threw me and so many travel agents for a loop. When there was first talk of closing the parks I insisted that it was unprecedented, except for a very few dire situations. I have learned that I can’t always assume that the future is going to be like the past. Covid gave me a lot of time to think, and I made some changes and kept some things and realized that I love my job. I missed making magic happen behind the scenes for the time when the parks where closed. We were there on opening day, walking down Main St. USA. It was amazing and made me cry. The cast members told us they were waiting for us and were so happy to see us. I love how hard my team has worked to build back the business, and I appreciate my clients all the more because we didn’t plan many trips for a little while. We have branched out to include more than just Disney now, and I appreciate that my suppliers were mostly easy to work with during this time. It has been very common over the past two years to spend hours on hold for our clients.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Travel Bug Company, we specialize in planning Disney and Universal vacations for families. We also plan tropical trips and cruises, plus some European destinations. Our heart belongs to Disney, and that’s what we plan the most of. We are detailed planners, and because we love Disney so much and travel there frequently, we stay on the cutting edge of what’s changing and how to best serve our clients with the latest protocols and modifications.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If you’re new to this industry it can be intimidating. I would say don’t get discouraged! When you need some time away, take it, then come back with a new perspective. I didn’t realize the business would be a long game – when I first started out I thought business would just happen. It is humbling and so exciting when I look at how the business has grown through hard work and perseverance and the trust of my clients. I love watching my agents grow, learn, get excited and plan for their clients too. I’m honored to be a part of such an amazing industry. Meeting other owners makes me feel so blessed to be a part of such a fantastic group.
