Check Out Angie Quezada’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Quezada

Hi Angie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for basketball since the age of 5. I played my entire life, so in college it was no different. That love for the game, and sports overall led me to changing my major from pre law to Broadcast Journalism with the hopes that I would become a sports reporter.

I graduated from Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL. A decision that I consider one of the best choices I’ve ever made in my life. It allowed me to learn the foundation in my walk with Christ in the REAL world. While at Southeastern, I landed an internship with CNN in Atlanta. An amazing experience. I then landed an internship with TAB Sports Radio, based out of Puerto Rico, where I covered the Orlando Magic and all of their home games. It felt like a dream still being able to be around the game I loved so much. While in college, I fell in love with the art of radio. The ability to be able to inspire, encourage my classmates as they went to their next class, or headed to lunch. I created a 30’minute show on our campus’ radio station WSEU. And it went live at 12, that lunch power hour, ya know. I decided that I was going to dedicate that half hour to the Christian Hip Hop, with artists like Lecrae, Trip Lee, etc. mixed with my energetic charisma, I’d say a few words of encouragement mixed with the schools latest headlines and announcements. And it was amazing. When i tried getting an internship with a big Hip Hop station in Orlando, I was turned down. But an on-air personality saw me and ended up messaging me on social media. They said they saw a lot of “them” in me, and wanted to give me a hands on experience by shadowing them. And so I did, even making a few air checks before I left.

When it came to landing that first job out of school as a sports reporter, it was hard. But I got an opportunity to become a Weekend Anchor and report throughout the week for a station in Greenville, MS. The station was called WABG. The Mississippi Delta is so special to me on several ways. That season in my life broke my heart from the things I witnessed, the stories I had to cover, things I’ve never witnessed in my life, only heard of in movies. But I found a good home church. I met some of my closest friends. And not only did I work in television. I landed a job with the radio network out there covering ArkLaMiss as the midday personality for their Hip Hop and R&B station. I would pre-track my show the night before, after working the tv shift. Then I got an opportunity to do voiceover work for in and out of the house advertisement for Harlows Casino. My voice, my presence was everywhere in the Mississippi Delta.

Our station was sold, and I didn’t want to resign my contract, so the owner of the Radio Network asked if I’d help build a news department there. I agreed, and went full time radio as a News Director and on-air personality. The Delta Daily News was created and still runs today.

Once my time came to leave Mississippi, I thought I was going to stay in radio moving forward. But due to several hiring freezes, I ended up applying to several news jobs throughout the South.

I got a job as a weekday anchor for WNCT. the CBS affiliate in Greenville, North Carolina. From one Greenville to another! There I expanded my love to serve. I volunteered in several different areas in several different roles. I grew to love digital marketing too, helping local non-profits and small business owners reach their goals, and expand their reach. I was then asked to move in a different position, as the main evening anchor, with a cohost. I anchored the 5pm, 6pm, and 11pm newscast. I became a mom in that seat. The best title and position I hold. After becoming a mother, the goal was always to get closer to my family. Who were mostly all in Central Florida.

There’s three areas that I’m very passionate about, and that’s our veterans, our children in foster care system, and those who are incarcerated and all three re entering society. I became the Marketing Manager at Kairos Prison Ministry International, based out of Debary, FL. I have a front row seat to hearing God’s transformative power and love through the stories I encounter. And see how thousands of volunteers make a massive difference to those who are impacted by incarceration. I then got an awesome opportunity to get back into television in the area that I grew up, which so happens to be market 15! Where I’m currently the Morning Reporter for WKMG. I get to fill in anchor too which is fun, but I love interacting with our community. Making a difference and getting results.

I would love to encourage the reader, that no dream is too small. That you are worthy of it all! Never let the nay sayers or the ones who think they know the real story, keep you from living your truth and becoming the best you can be. God makes no mistakes, he’s an intentional, and strategic God. Your story matters, and it can change the game!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think I struggled from at times, being away from family. At the beginning financially, it was tough. But God was really my foundation. He kept my faith strong. My vision clear. It allowed me to look past the chaos at times, and see things exactly for what they were and who He’s called me to be.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m currently a Morning Reporter for WKMG. You can tune in each morning on air, or over on ClickOrlando.com As a general assignment reporter my stories truly range from it all, but all of my stories are on ClickOrlando.com

I also still am apart of Kairos Prison Ministry International, where we’re always looking for volunteers! We are multiply states and international. Just visit kpmi.org to see how you can be apart of this amazing organization.

I’m mostly proud of my perseverance. I kept going no matter what. I know one day my entire story is going to be shared and it will impact millions. I’m just excited to be able to share the TRUTH in every area. Maybe a book is in the works? Hmmm.

What sets me apart from others is my authenticity. I am who I am. My personality truly is my brand. I’m humble. But I’m hungry, and I know I’m just getting started.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Digital is massive! And the news industry is really moving towards a digital world, when it comes to social media and the ability to stream. I think that’ll be the wave in the next few years for sure.
