Today we’d like to introduce you to Annel Torres
Hi Annel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Annel. I have a passion for makeup since an early age. I love the different personalities you can actually create with any makeup style. I first started by doing friends and families makeup as a hobby, every compliment I got encouraged me to follow this direction.
My style and technique has grown so much over the years and then I decided to get my makeup artist certification it just made it more clear that this was the path I wanted to take.
Out of my passion for beauty, I created a Luxury hair and makeup team. I moved to Central Florida ( Saint Cloud ) in 2019 , I worked as freelance artist for other companies when I first moved, but I knew this was momentarily because I knew o wanted to be my own boss and implement my vision and creativity in my own business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being new to the area was not smooth, i had to start from zero creating clientele and putting my name out there, my name being attached to the quality of my work was so important to me, I knew that the team I wanted to create needed to be as qualify and passionate as I was, I’m really lucky to have found that in my colleagues and extremely proud of the girls that have been working with me since I launched my own company.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a makeup artist, who specializes in Bridal makeup, I love a full glam makeup, I love color and I love when I client pushes my creativity and ask me for looks outside of norm, south asians weddings are a great example of that, their weddings are full of color and as they have several ceremonies and different days, each day is a different color dress with a different makeup look and hair style, but I also love the beauty of a soft glam on a bride , to play with soft tones and still give my client the confidence and elegance they want. I have several clients that are involved in Florida’s social circle and have several Galas or social events and doing a more glamorous makeup look worthy of a red carpet event is my absolute favorite, all your attention is dedicated to one single person.
But what I am most proud is my SFX makeup passion, special effects makeup and the love for movies is what got me into makeup artistry, since I was a child I was in love with special effects makeup and horror movies, the creation of different personalities with makeup was my dream, making someone look old, or scary or magical is the beauty of the makeup industry.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I always wanted to extend my work into special effects makeup but i’m afraid of loosing the steady work we have with wedding industry and venture into the unknown.
Im not a risk- taker in hindsight I wish I was, I see more of my artistic side on SFX makeup but I also see the work flow I provide for my team and that weights heavier in my head and in my heart.
