Check Out Asher Ochstein’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asher Ochstein.

Hi Asher, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was 7 years old when I started karting at a local go-kart track in St. Petersburg, Florida. This track is where I developed my love for racing. I quickly then joined a team based in South Florida where I further developed my race craft and was introduced into competitive go-kart racing. In as little as a year, I achieved much success, winning national races for my team.

Today at 10 years of age, I continue to race but now for two teams. One based in the United States and the other in Italy.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to learning the art of racing has been very hard. Not just for me but for my whole family. My family has devoted so much of their time to make sure I have the opportunity to race competitively while also making sure I do well in school and keeping our family together.

Also, my parents work very hard to make sure they can afford to have me race and that I can attend the races. The sport is very expensive and can quickly be a burden financially. Plus, I race all across the United States and Italy which means I am not home a lot.

Go-kart racing is extremely competitive. There is only one winner and many losers. There are so many factors that go into winning a race. Not only do you have to be a good driver, you must have good equipment and lots of luck on your side.

So, there is no guarantee and I must maintain a strong positive attitude because you can’t win them all.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am in 4th grade and am a strong student academically. I also race about 20+ Go-Kart races per year (not including my practice weekends.)

I’m not your typical 10-year-old because I am working on developing my career NOW versus my friends who are still trying to figure out who they want to be as an adult. I know I want to race cars when I become an adult!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I’m a hard worker and very competitive. I am good at math which is very important in this sport as we must analyze data after each of our races to understand where we are strong and where we need to improve.

Most importantly, I never give up and always keep pushing!
