Hi Brenda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I am currently a supervisor of a community center in Lakeland. Writing is my hobby. My pen name is BYSmith, and BYSmithWrites is my business name.
I have authored one book titled, “Sanctified Freak, the Spirit and the Flesh are Contrary.” My goal is to write more books. I get so much peace writing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles I have faced are not stepping up to the plate where my gift is.
Being an author takes planning. I currently have a full-time job as a supervisor, and I get so busy; however, I know that if I want to flourish in my gift I will need to set aside time and make it happen.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the author of “Sanctified Freak, the Spirit & Flesh are Contrary.” I thought by now I would have finished my next book, but life keeps me busy. I am currently the Senior Supervisor for two facilities in the City of Lakeland.
I minister on Instagram as “A Minute in the Word with BYSmith” @1bysmith. I am most proud of going to college at 43 and graduating cum laude, I’m most proud of that because my children were so proud of their mommy. What sets me apart from others is that I speak the truth and I’m okay hearing the truth.
I want someone to tell me if I am doing something that seems a bit off. As a woman of God, it’s my responsibility to let my brother or sister in Christ know that something seems off. We all go through issues, and need a kick in the but sometimes to help us get back in line.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Control Your Mind and Master Your Feelings is a good resource, of course, the Holy Bible is needed to keep me calm. I love Tony Evans and his family, so I try to listen to one of them weekly.
I love my Pastor, James McCormick, so I study his sermons and listen to his music when I find myself needing a kick in the butt to be a better me.
