Check Out Brett Parker’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Parker.

Hi Brett, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started personal training in 1993 when I got out of college. It was during the recession and Physical Therapy jobs were hard to find so, I took what I learned and put it to use training clients. I opened my first training facility in 1997 just a little North of Boston, MA (Medford). In 2001 I moved and opened a bigger facility in Stoneham, MA about 10 minutes away. I ran that until 2021 when COVID hit and I was not able to keep it open, like many businesses.

I moved to FL in June of 2021 and continue to see clients in person and virtually.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely been a tough road. Opening a business can be extremely difficult and anxiety ridden. It is completely throwing yourself out there hoping your idea catches someone’s attention.

I have opened 4 facilities each has had their share of ups and downs. Bad partners, tough economies, a pandemic. Being a business owner no matter what the industry is tough. There are no 40 hour weeks. It’s 24/7 and thinking ahead 6,12,18 months.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love working with people and trying to help them better themselves. My very first client was an AIDS patient, he was an absolutely brilliant man but, in his mind he could not do a certain exercise… he was absolutely convinced. So, after being yelled at that it was impossible ( it was a chest fly machine), I told him close his eyes and I helped him with the first rep, the 2nd and 3rd he did on his own. When he was done… I said, “Ok. what else can’t you do?” That was the start of my philosophy. I’ve trained professional athletes to 90 yr old great grandmothers to one client who weighed over 900 lbs!

What I am most proud of is being able to do what I love, which is helping people and better the quality of their lives. My second life and business is, I ‘m a professional musician (guitar) and I have toured all over the Country and several Countries for the past 30 years. I have been able to build that business to where it has been pretty successful.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
1. Never give up…and remember that every day
2. In business you’ll hear NO everyday
3. No, doesn’t always mean no… try harder, try smarter
4. You have one name… don’t screw it up
5. Under promise…over perform.
