Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Bentley
Brianna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In March of 2021, three years ago, my father gifted me my first nail kit, Hoping I might develop an interest in doing my own nails. As someone who had always been creative and artistic, I didn’t realize that this small gesture would spark the beginning of a career I had yet to discover. I began practicing on my mom and cousins, quickly finding that I truly enjoyed doing nails.
However, as time passed, my life took an unexpected turn. My father was diagnosed with leukemia, and as Covid began to spread, I found myself juggling the stress of my junior year in high school, worrying about my father’s health, and working at my first job at McDonald’s. I was uncertain about my future and what career path I should pursue.
In 2022, as I approached high school graduation, my world was shaken. My father lost his battle with cancer, and my heart broke. It became painfully clear that he wouldn’t be there to see me graduate. In the midst of my grief, however, I found strength. I realized that my biggest supporter was watching over me, and I knew I had to keep moving forward.
With a renewed sense of purpose, I decided to pursue something meaningful. I began researching nail schools and toured the first one that caught my interest. I shared my excitement with my mother, and she, seeing my passion, fully supported my decision. After the tour, we both agreed it was the right fit for me, and I enrolled at Florida Academy of Beauty.
Everything seemed to fall into place quickly. I was overjoyed to begin this new journey, meeting my teachers and classmates who shared similar dreams. As I started buying nail supplies and preparing for the journey ahead, I felt a renewed sense of purpose and excitement. On my first day of school, As I dive straight into nail art my teacher was very surprised, as most students began with the basics of nail application and anatomy.
I graduated from nail school and became an independent nail technician. To gain experience and build my clientele, I worked at several salons. While my experiences in the salon world didn’t always work out as I had hoped, they only fueled my determination. Eventually, I opened my own suite with my nail partner, and now have a space where I could share my passion for nails and truly connect with my clients.
Today, I am incredibly grateful for the journey that brought me here. I am proud of the progress I’ve made, and I am beyond thankful for the clients who trust me with their nails. For me, nail art has always been more than just a business it’s about creating something beautiful that others can wear, share, and feel confident in. It’s my way of bringing a little more beauty and joy into the world, just as my father’s love and support continue to inspire me from above.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
