Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridgett Miller Dixon.
Hi Bridgett, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a Registered Nurse for 12 years now working in Mother/Baby Units and recently became a Nurse Practitioner so my heart has always been in the direct care of new families.
My husband and I had been discussing how exhausted I was working on the night shift and both agreed I need an exit strategy. Being a baby nurse, we immediately thought of Let Mommy Sleep and thought it was a good franchise to get into because it was already established.
We also liked the name, even more, when our son told us he liked the name because all his life his dad always told him to “Let Mommy Sleep!”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While I would not change a thing, it has not always been a smooth road. Most recently with COVID-19. All of us who work in healthcare understand what we signed up for, but COVID-19 has made it a lot harder to care for patients and have a work-life balance.
I adore my patients and work my very best for them but like so many of my colleagues I have been feeling drained, burnt out, and sleep-deprived due to working longer hours, and answering requests to pick up shifts to help because we are short-staffed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Family Nurse Practitioner known for my compassionate care for women’s health.
Working with all populations, from the tiniest newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to pediatrics to being the primary care provider to adults, I am most proud of the connections I have made with my patients. Caring for families in the NICU is an area I’m proud of because not only are the babies in need of specialized care and sometimes medically complex, but parents need gentle education and encouragement too.
So not only are you calling on your nursing skills but also your human skills. It is challenging but rewarding.
