Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Donowho.
Hi Brooke, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I attended Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada and graduated with degrees in Health and Religious Studies. I moved to Orlando in 2024 and absolutely love it!! I’ve loved photography since the eighth grade, but have developed a passion specifically for film photography in recent years. As l’ve learned about film and worked on film sets, l’ve gained a deep appreciation for the vintage, nostalgic charm that film photography evokes – I truly relish the unpredictability of how a photo will reveal itself through the film process. Ever since my journey with film photography began, I have seen how a film photo transforms into a doorway that carries you back to the exact moment it was captured. Because of this passion I’ve found, I decided to create FilmWho, a play on Donowho, to capture special moments like birthdays, parties, friends, formals, homecomings, you name it! One of my dreams is to give back timeless, nostalgic film photos to the community around me no matter what part of life they find themselves in.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest obstacle to creating FilmWho was getting over my fear of starting something new. What helped me significantly was relying on my faith in the Lord and knowing He is always with me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from others in the creative space is my decision to focus solely on film photography. There are hundreds of photographers out there, but FilmWho is dedicated specifically to film. I made this decision purposefully as I find there is a special feeling that stirs inside of you when you see your memories on film versus digital. Film evokes charm, eloquence, nostalgia, dreaminess, serenity, and enchantment which almost transports you right into the 19th century. Because of this feeling, I am most proud when a client treasures and senses the same beauty from their film photos as I do.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Many people don’t know that I am a duel citizen of the United States and Canada!
