Check Out Brooke Renton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Renton.

Brooke Renton

Hi Brooke, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Olivia’s Odyssey was founded in honor of Olivia, a brave little girl who is thriving with Trisomy 18. Olivia continues to touch the hearts of many with her unwavering courage and spirit. The non-profit was started after my husband and I were told Olivia would be transferred 4 hours from home.

Our family leaped into action sending donations and fundraising so my husband could miss work and be by her side.

That’s where the idea came from. We want to help break the barrier between affording fair care.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been relatively smooth so far?
The road to where we are has not been smooth. It’s been a lot of navigating and trying to get our 501c3 status. Now that we have accomplished that it’s now trying to gain sponsorship and donations to help reach the next level.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We offer a range of services including financial assistance, emotional support, and access to resources that can help families navigate the complex medical system. Also, we just released our first book called “Although You’re Little” The book is small words of affirmation. This book can be read to a baby. The book features other trisomy 18 babies also.

We set ourselves apart by living the life of having a medically complex child. We know the struggles and know how hard the path is. We’ve heard all the negative and had to overcome most of the struggles families will face. However, Olivia is thriving.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Never be afraid to ask outside of family and friends. You’d be surprised how a stranger might be willing to help more.
